22 Year old Gold Coaster Xavier Doerr’s 21 foot racing yacht has encountered a severe weather system off the West Australian coastline, with the lone yachtsman slammed by huge seas and winds gusting to 80 knots. The vessel has been knocked on its side on multiple occasions, suffering significant damage. In constant contact with his shore team, Xavier has taken a sharp left towards the coastline and will make his way to Fremantle Sailing Club where there will be an assessment of the boat to ascertain the repairs needed in order to safely continue.

We put the new Cruisers Yachts 38 VTR to the test to see how its hybrid stepped hull handles the open water. With a top speed of 44.2 MPH and a versatile five-layout cockpit, this plumb-bow weekender is a significant design departure for the Oconto-based builder. In this Boat Test we take a deep dive into the 38 VTR features, a unique running surface designed for a flatter plane and reduced drag, providing a stable, efficient ride even in a chop. During our sea trial, we powered the 38 VTR with twin 300-hp Mercury Verado outboards. We recorded a cruise speed of 24.1 MPH at 4000 RPM, proving its efficiency as a long-range dayboat or weekender. The 2013 49erFX European Championships are in Aarhus, Denmark. This is a replay of the livestream from Race 3 of the 49erFX Semi Final. There was no Quarter Final for the 49erFX, as there was a smaller fleet for them than the 49er. Races 1 & 2 were completed on the second racecourse, so this is the first race filmed live for the 49erFX Europeans.

Options range from a choice of three unique keels and five interior layouts by Nauta Designs ranging from three cabins and two heads all the way up to five cabins and four heads. Topside, her cockpit constitutes a full third of her length and includes an electric swim platform, a refrigerator, plenty of cushioned seating for guests and two sun pads for the ultimate in afternoon napping. The mast has been moved aft slightly making her the picture of balance and maneuverability. This, along with electric primary winches, a dual helm and twin rudders make sailing a 55-foot sailboat short, or even single-handed, a joy to any skipper with a little experience. The first impression below deck is that of space, followed closely by light. The 55’s 16-foot beam means there is plenty of elbow room, not to mention head room. Eight large windows make her elegant interior space as bright as it is above deck. The saloon boasts a large u-shaped galley with plenty of storage, a generous dinette and a pop up flat screen television. The Oceanis 38 and 55 continue Beneteau’s long history of innovation, quality and sheer beauty – making all who love the wind and water the real winners.

In Luang Prabang werden von 6 bis 12 Uhr an jedem Morgen frische Waren aus der Region verkauft. Es wurde uns empfohlen in jedem Fall vor 11Uhr dort zu erscheinen um die volle Bandbreite der angebotenen Waren zu sehen. Somit waren wir schon gegen 8Uhr auf dem Morning Market, der sich in etwa auf Höhe des Nachtmarktes in den Gassen Richtung Mekong befand. Mit der Kamera bewaffnet wollten wir unbedingt unsere Eindrücke festhalten, was mitunter nicht so einfach war, da wir an manchen Ständen aufgrund des Gestankes einfach weitergehen wollten. Als wir die Hälfte des Marktes gesehen hatten, legten wir eine kurze Pause ein um unserer Nase ein kleines Verschnaufen zu ermöglichen. Dann ging es weiter ...
