After we left Beaufort, NC, we cruised north on the ICW through the Bay and Pamlico Rivers to the Pungo River/Alligator River Canal across the Albemarle Sound. From there, we dock for the night at the free docks on the east side of the Great Bridge and Lock in Chesapeake, VA. Once we pass through the lock, we navigate the through the container ships and naval fleet (and a submarine!), past Norfolk to Hampton, VA. We spent a few days in Hampton exploring Fort Monroe and the downtown Hampton area before heading out into Chesapeake Bay. Ein Temperatursturz - in etwa eine Halbierung im Vergleich zur Vorwoche - hat die Segler auf der Ostsee vor Warnemünde kalt erwischt. Das hielt sie natürlich trotzdem nicht davon ab, den bekannten Kurs zu umrunden. Die ersten 3 Schiffe hatten einen komfortablen Vorsprung, dahinter ballte sich dann aber das Feld und bot einen spannenden Zieleinlauf am Leuchtturm - wenn auch bei einsetzender Dunkelheit. Uneinigkeit herrschte beim taktischen Einsatz des Spinakers - einige Yachten versuchten es auf beiden Halbwindkursen herum um die Reedetonne, andere erst auf dem Weg zur Warnemünder Mole. In jedem Fall fiel auch das Ergebnis hier sehr unterschiedlich aus - nicht jeder war glücklich mit seiner Entscheidung für oder gegen das Setzen dieses Segels. Es verbleiben noch 2 Wettfahrten bis zum Saisonende, aktuell sieht es aber so aus, als würde der Gesamtsieger schon feststehen. Aber bekanntlich ist die Segelsaison erst vorbei, wenn sie vorbei ist. Bis nächsten Mittwoch.

The Hydrovane Rudder is held in place on the Shaft with a Locking Pin. Boats with a swim step or platform will find it easier to put the Rudder on. Double enders or traditional transom style boats will need to do so from the dinghy or dock. Removing the Rudder involves pulling the Locking Pin and hauling it onboard. Thanks for watching!

Who knew there’d be such a bounty of seafood hiding just behind what has been claimed as the world’s most beautiful beach? We took the tender up into the creek systems of Hill Inlet after hearing rumours of mud crabs lurking in the mangroves – and we weren’t disappointed. A few well-placed pots later and we had ourselves a decent haul. Special shout out to Kev & Kate from @BaittoPlate for the tips and sharing their chicken bait - legends. Then, while anchored in a stunning stretch of turquoise water, we threw in a line and landed some squid… one of which made a last-ditch attempt to escape by squirting ink all over Kym. (Classic squid move, 10/10 for drama.) We topped it off with a beach stop all to ourselves – just us, the sand, and the quiet hum of nature. It’s wild to think how much life is teeming just out of sight in places like this. Hill Inlet isn’t just beautiful above the water – it’s thriving beneath it too. It’s one of those pinch-yourself moments. Every day out here, this trip keeps surprising us. Thanks for watching. Deserto del Sahara, Valle del Drâa, nomadi beduini: spedizione a piedi con dromedari nel cuore del Marocco.Dopo aver lasciato la mia barca a vela Maruzza nel porto di Saidia, ho attraversato mezzo Marocco con la mia Fiat Panda “Terruzza” fino alla valle del Valle del Drâa, alle porte del Deserto del Sahara. Qui è iniziata una vera avventura nel deserto. Ho incontrato due nomadi che stanno per partire a piedi con due dromedari per raggiungere dei parenti a oltre 100 km di distanza, nel nulla più assoluto. Ho chiesto di unirmi alla spedizione… e incredibilmente hanno accettato. Da quel momento è iniziato un viaggio estremo tra: -navigazione nel deserto senza punti di riferimento -gestione dell’acqua e sopravvivenza -notti sotto le stelle con temperature vicine allo zero -il rischio concreto di perdermi nel nulla Spesso rimango indietro. Il silenzio è totale. Il deserto non perdona distrazioni. Ma c’è qualcosa che non mi torna. Chi sono davvero queste persone? E chi stanno andando realmente a trovare nel cuore del Sahara?
