It is also the only livable statue in the world with a gross floor area of 12,000 square meters or 1.2 hectares, more or less. The crown has 12 stars that represents the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. Construction of the hands and face of Mary was commissioned to renowned sculptor and national artist, the late ED CASTRILLO, who started working on the project in 2008. Upon completion of the hands and face in 2010, they were temporarily installed and displayed until 2017 at the cloisters’ façade facing towards the northwest direction. A person has to climb a total of 420 steps from the ground level to reach the crown but that is if the person opted not to use any of the 3 elevators inside the monument. Finally time to get the cabin in order! This was several days of prep and painting all wrapped into a short video. I used a white primer that also kills mold and mildew. I am not sure if this stuff will hold for long. So I may be painting it all again with something like else. But for now it works and feels a lot better! Enjoy the sounds.

whilst I was living offgrid in the Bush & mangroves system in Gambia for over 1 & a half years me & my mother spotted a crocodile coming past the boat and stalking a local gambian woman who was catching mud crabs with bonga fish as bait. Usually they use pirogues or dug outs to do this job so it's very unusual to do this basically swimming. The area is full of crocodiles and other nice beasts it's an extremely wild & primitive location.

Episode 16 marks the end of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2. Sandwiched between a haul out and a launch, we take a trip to Europe. We check out Oktoberfest for the second time. We check out Salzburg. So pretty! And then, we take a plane to Porto, Portugal to begin our Camino de Santiago. This 5 day bike trip, takes us from Porto to Santiago, Spain about 280km...or slightly more, if you're bad at directions like we are! This trip was fun, beautiful but also hard. Our motto for the episode is, if not now, when...and we said this a lot as we were navigating the challenges of this bike trip. I think this motto also encapsulates one of the biggest reasons we decided to take the plunge and pursue this cruising lifestyle. In our mid-50's, we're not getting any younger and are still in relatively good health. That is, nothing is really keeping us from doing the things we want to do. Yeah, we both could have worked a handful of more years but really, it wasn't going to materially change our standard of living. However, we would get older and could potentially have challenges in pursuing this dream, if we were to start it a 5 years later. So, IF NOT NOW, WHEN? Episode 044 After a busy few months, we are starting to reap the rewards of our hard work and we start enjoying life back on anchor. We have made our way up the coast, 30 nautical mile, to Whangaroa Harbour, in Northland New Zealand where we spend some time relaxing. Although, our sailboat is well provisioned, we are wanting some fresh supplies, but the problem is we're in a remote location with the nearest shop either a short car ride to Kaeo or a half an hour taxi ride (or 15 nautical mile sail up the coast) to Mangōnui Harbour. We decided to try our hand at doing an online shop and grocery delivery. Adam also gets an early Christmas present that he has wanted for at least two years, and we are joined by our good friends Pam & Dene who are not only great company but get us out exploring the anchorage by boat and foot! From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore.
