On May 21, 2023, I will turn 80. I plan to do a celebratory cruise in my sailboat “Carlita” around the whole of the Pamlico Sound. A distance of 500 nautical miles. It has been just over 10 years since I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I never expected to make it to 80, let alone still have the desire or feel fit enough to attempt this cruise. I believe that Rock Steady Boxing has played a big part in that. I thought it would be good to try to give something back. We are making our enclosure longer. The waves they managed to roll inside the cockpit while sailing. So that needed to be fixed. We teach Ansgar (from Umiak) to sew. He had a big smile on his face the whole time. Bas from the Poolster, Peter from the Surprise and Michael are preparing a BBQ while the rest are going for a hike and a swim at a remote and beautiful beach.. After this cooling refreshing swim, the group climbs up again. They were really getting hungry, and now need to find the BBQ place. The BBQ was a gathering of the crews from Make My Day, Waveguide, Gravity, Surprise, Poolster, Umiak, and Frisco. Along with our friend and resident shore support Yolande. There is an election in Madeira and the political party PSD is having a campaign rally with live music. Ponchas and music. Ofcourse we had to check that out. We didn’t understand one bit of the political speeches, but the party was great. Along with usual suspects, we are joined by the Swedish crews of La Puce and Dão. Early mornings and ruff weather. Cutting out that morning coffee :( ... avoiding seizures :) Crossing between Sardinia and Corsica. Snorkelling. For all the people out there living with epilepsy... when we aren't in the middle of a grand mal/tonic clonic it is often a silent disease, the auras, weird smells, debilitating brain fog, depression from seizure medications with the extreme highs and lows, uneasiness and panic of the next seizure goes unseen by the people around us. My first really bad tonic clonic seizure I woke up in the hospital and was beyond grateful to be alive now I'll try to spend the rest of my life attempting to be just that. Alive. I want to feel every minute of this life, love, laughter, bone chillingly terrified, and left in awe at this beautiful planet we exist on :)

🔧 Aujourd’hui, mission démontage du balcon arrière du voilier ! 🛠️ Pour accéder aux vis inférieures, il a fallu retourner dans le compartiment du réservoir de gasoil… un vrai jeu de contorsionniste ! 😆 🤝 Heureusement, mon ami Laurent est venu me donner un coup de main, parce que toute seule, c’était mission impossible. Et puis, soyons honnêtes… c’était la première fois de ma vie que je démontais un balcon de bateau ! 😅 💦 On s’est attaqués à ce démontage parce que de l’eau s’infiltrait le long des vis, ruisselait dans le compartiment du réservoir, passait sous le moteur et finissait dans la cale de la cuisine. There’s a lot to consider when you live on a boat full-time, but these five systems have made a big difference to how we manage life afloat. From maintenance to log books, to task and tide tracking, these are the systems we’ve found ourselves relying on the most during our first months living aboard. We’re sharing what works for us not because we’ve got it all figured out - far from it - but in the hope it might help someone else at the beginning of their sailing journey. 1.7.25 wir starteten von der Marina Mandraki Rhodos Richtung Symi. Obwohl kein Wind angesagt war, segelten wir mit gutem Wind Richtung Symi. Leider war uns die See-Grenze zur Türkei "im Weg" und so mussten wir ein paar mal mehr kreuzen. Aber es war ein toller Segeltag. Wir ankerten dann in der Bucht Panormitis, in der wir 3 Nächte blieben. Es ist eine sehr geschützte Ankerbucht mit tollem türkisenem Wasser. Das Kloster schauten wir uns dabei natürlich auch an ... 29,5 sm 4. Juli 2025: wir segelten Richtung Symi Hafen und stoppten kurz für zum Baden in die beeindruckende Bucht "Agios Georgios", die auch auf dem Foto zu sehen ist. Auch die war sehr voll. Wir legten um 15:15 in Symi am Hafen ein. Ein komisches System, bei dem man erste an seiner Bug-Boje vorbei fährt (ohne diese oder Nachbarbojen mit der Schraube zu treffen) und sich an dieser mit einer langen Leine fest macht. Es hat geklappt. Ich war froh. Wir schlenderten durch das wahnsinnig touristische Symi fotografierten die Häuserkulisse, für die Symi bekannt ist und gingen Abends noch Essen. Symi hat uns nicht begeistert. Mit nichts. 13 sm 5.7.25: die Nacht im Hafen war heiß und schwül und so legten wir ab und sind nach 10 Minuten beide direkt ins Wasser gehüpft. Wir motorten nord-Westlich um Symi rum, als wir am Ufer 10 rote Rettungswesten sahen. ich dachte erst, es sind Taucher, mit ihren Tauch-Bojen, aber als diese dann am Hang verteilt auf dem Boden lagen, erkannte ich die Rettungswesten und was wir da gerade sehen. Genau in diesem Moment kamen 2 Küstenwachen-Schiffe. Beide vorne ein Maschinengewähr abschussbereit ... Gruselig, als sie auf uns zukamen. Sie nährten sich uns und rechnete schon voll mit einer Kontrolle, ob wir die Schlepper seien. Ich war froh, dass wir beide noch mit nassen Badehosen und Bikinis Ihnen zuwinkten. Sie grüßten zurück und fuhren zu dem 2. Boot und den Rettungswesten. Das hat mich wirklich gedanklich 2 Tage begleitet. Wo diese Menschen wohl gerade sind ? Wie es ihnen geht? Was aus ihnen wird? naja, wir motorten - mangels Wind - zurück nach Tilos und ankerten vor der Bucht in 15 m Wassertiefe. Wir blieben 2 Nächte und hatten bis auf die Mücken und gelegentlich starke Böen gute Nächte. 28 sm 7.7.25 Wir machten uns auf den Weg Richtung Norden , Richtung Nisyros. Von null Wind bis 25 kn Wind war wieder alles dabei. Wir segelten so viel wie möglich und fanden glücklich um 13 Uhr einen Plazt in dem Hafen von Paloi. Der ist wesentlich schöner als der Hafen von Mandraki, in dem wir am 18.6.25 lagen. Wir aßen Abends im Aphrodite lecker und billig Lamm und Tintenfisch (12Euro). 18,6 sm 8.7.25 wir hatten wieder nur eine kurze Strecke vor uns und segelten/motorten direkt hoch nach Kos an den langen Strand von Kamari. Der Platz riesig, das Wasser türkis, der Sand super hat es uns wirklich gut gefallen, obwohl es für Kos ein unbedeutender Strand ist. 14 sm 9.7.25 Wir wollten eigentlich nach Kardamena, um dort den Ankerplatz bzw. Hafen aus zu kundschaften, weil ich ja meine Kinder vom Flughafen abholen will und dieser Hafen sehr nah am Flughafen liegt. Aber der Wind war zu gut, als dass wir aufhören wollten und so fragten wir spontan inm Kos-Mandraki Hafen, ob wir einen Platz bekommen. Für den nächsten Tag hatte er nämlich keinen Platz. Aber wir kamen einen und so legten wir glücklich im Kos Hafen an. Gefallen hat uns Kos nicht besonders, aber das folgt im nächsten Video. 25,7 sm Viel Spaß beim Ansehen. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away.
