Brutal - The word crews have been using to describe the opening stages of the Ocean Race Atlantic. The upwind start was uncomfortable enough but then the fleet engaged with a weather system that looked capable of carrying them across the Atlantic. The catch? Sailing close to the trailing edge of a cold front, where strong breeze promises speed — but the wind direction and sea state don’t align. Most had the pace to stay with the system but few had the speed to break through the front into a more organised sea state where they could properly put their foot to the floor. The result: fast sailing, boat breaking seas and a relentless battering for the crews. Tag 1 nach der Jahrhundertflut - Wir überführen unsere Maxi 84 auf Umwegen. Moin! Wir sind Rika und Johannes aus Hamburg. Zusammen mit Rikas Schwester Julia segeln wir nach und nach durch die Dänische Südsee, um unsere Segel-Skills zu erweitern und das tolle Wassersport-Revier zu erkunden. Von den vielen kleinen Inseln und dem teilweise klaren Wasser sind wir immer wieder fasziniert. Die Ostsee-Törns sind definitiv unsere Highlights. Normalerweise trefft ihr uns jedoch auf unserem Heimatrevier direkt vor unserer Haustür an: Der Außenalster in Hamburg. Denn, wir haben uns im April 2021 einen Kielzugvogel aus Holz gekauft. Zwischen April und Oktober genießen wir also das Segeln auf der Knysna [ˈnaɪzna] (so haben wir unser Boot getauft, nach einer Stadt in Südafrika benannt). Die Wintersaison haben wir die letzten beiden Jahre genutzt, um step-by-step den Refit am Vollholzboot durchzuführen. Dabei haben wir uns immer nach dem Motto gerichtet: Learning by Doing. Im Herbst 2023 haben wir uns einen weitern Traum erfüllt und uns eine Maxi 84 gekauft. Diese wurde von uns Ende Oktober nach Kiel überführt. Ab jetzt widmen wir uns im Winterlager auch diesem schwedischen Segelklassiker.
