Race 2 of the annual Narrows Series, the Portaferry Town Regatta, got under way with 8 to 12 knots of breeze from the SSE. The race committee set a long course with two windward leewards to allow the boats in IRC 1 enough time to sort our positions in the lough and allow for the tide to turn and help the boats race back up the narrows to the traditional finish off the club house. A spinnaker start on the in rushing tide saw the fleet stay close on the run down to mark 9, before positions settled down on the first beat. Animal the visiting boat from Scotland showed great down wind speed to lead at the first mark, briefly giving up the lead to GTR on the second kite run. While the race for line honours was close the handicap result was never in doubt with Animal show the local boats how things are done. With a 1 & 2 after two races it will take a change in fortunes for the local IRC 1 crews to have any chance of taking the series on day 3 of the regatta. NOAA is ending its support of traditional raster paper charts and transitioning to digital vector charts. The webinar also covers satellite charts, especially outside the United States. Longtime SSCA cruisers discuss the use of OpenCPN chart software to create custom Satellite Charts, and satellite chart archives available free of charge to sailors cruising to remote locations around the world.

This week we leave Blackbeard's Cove Marina for the final time and head down Pungo River, cross Pamlico River then we take Goose Creek to Gale Creek where we anchor for the evening. From there we head down Bay River, head up Neuse River and finally enter Adams Creek where we anchor for a few days to wait out bad weather. Then we finally head down Adam Creek Canal to arrive at the Coast of North Carolina at the Beaufort Inlet. 🚤 Un jour crucial : mon bateau sous le travel lift ! 🤩 Aujourd’hui, c’était une grande étape dans la rénovation de mon voilier ! Le travel lift du port est venu le lever pour que les stagiaires de l’INM, sous l’œil attentif de leur formateur, mettent en place, gouvernail, hélice, arbre d’hélice, presse-étoupe, anode d’hélice, tourteau… 🧼Pendant ce temps, j’ai tenté de redonner une seconde jeunesse à mes pare-battages avec un Karcher… Échec total, toujours aussi sales ! Et impossible de les regonfler, faute de l’outil adéquat.
