It's starting to look like a boat! This month we've been designing and building the interior for our redesigned 15' Lobster Boat. There's been a lot of waving our hands at it while discussing different approaches, comparing the original version and talking about what to change vs what to keep. Turning around 3D models on our computers, mocking up cardboard pieces, all to make sure everything flows together nicely. The structure you see taking shape here is temporary, we're building the interior shapes that we want so we can form the molds around them (just like we did for the outer hull). Ultimately that wood structure will be removed so the actual fiberglass seats can be installed into place.

Survival mode looks a little different at anchor. With the inverter gone, we start rethinking how to power life aboard Dark Angel. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, still at Staniel Cay, we pull out our lightning-damaged Magnum inverter and see what’s left of it. After a quick swim in the clear blue water, we get to work wiring our 100-litre Dometic freezer directly to the batteries for DC power, so we can finally give the generator a break and enjoy a little quiet aboard. ⚠️ Lightning Strike Update We were directly struck by lightning. Navigation systems, running lights, anchor lights, work lights, a large freezer, and even our keel were damaged. We're still facing VAT, duty, exchange rates, customs brokerage, and a costly haul-out for keel repairs in the Dominican Republic. Some places are hard to leave. The last days we spent in the Bahamas brought daily lightning storms, curious dolphins, and a few final dives before turning Dark Angel toward the Dominican Republic. Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy put on some tasty Carribean food and the RS Feva class sailors and parents let their hair down. After a stunning sunset over chesil beach, rumour has it there was dancing on the Volvo Events Stage well into the evening!
