This weeks episode is a bit special. We set sail to Al Rams to discover and explore a new region we haven’t seen yet in our beloved Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. We didn’t really mention anything regarding the US-Israel-Iran conflict in the video itself, we thought it’s better to make the video about what we stand for, sailing. However, two hours in the sail we heard the first missiles getting intercepted above the UAE's territory. Scary? Absolutely! But did we ever really feel threatened? Not really. The UAE's Air Defence did (and are still doing) an amazing job at keeping the people safe. As expats it is a great feeling trusting a government which excels in leadership under pressure. The past few days at the anchorage where only every now and then interrupted by a loud bang of an interception, besides that, it was a great time here. We met super nice people, enjoyed great food and relaxed a bit with a premium view on the mountains which makes Ras Al Khaimah unique to us. So yes, the UAE is a safe country to live in and a great country to sail! Right now, we hope the situation will get better soon and try to keep living our lives as normal as possible. This episode is for everyone, also for the ones affected by the conflict situation we are dealing with right now. Day 11. Today was kind of lucky and kind of unlucky at the same time. We were quite slow overnight, which normally would’ve been frustrating… but it actually turned into a blessing in disguise. Because it meant I reached the Bay of Biscay traffic zone later than expected and could go through it during daylight instead of at night. And honestly, that made a huge difference mentally. I got decent sleep, could actually see what was around me, and didn’t have to spend the entire night stressed about traffic. What’s funny though is how massive the ocean still feels. On the AIS there are boats everywhere, but in reality, I barely actually see anyone. Most of the boats never came close enough to matter. We all just kind of slipped perfectly around each other without anyone needing to change course. Which honestly felt pretty cool. I did run into the charging issue again though, the same one I’ve had before. Luckily I now know how to work around it, so it wasn’t a huge problem today. But it is still a bit concerning long term, because if this keeps happening during the GGR, I’ll probably need to make some changes to the system. But honestly, one of the funniest parts of this whole journey is waking up every morning and realizing the community has created something new while I was asleep. Today I woke up and realized… apparently I now have a cat named Windy. Somehow my tiller got a name. There’s lore. There are ongoing jokes. There’s apparently a whole parade happening onboard half the time. I’m always the last one to know what’s going on in my own community. But it honestly makes me so happy. People are so invested in this journey and they keep adding their own little stories and characters into it, and somehow it’s become this giant shared adventure instead of just me alone on a boat. As last time we had to perform some "acrobatics" with Aquarius trying to set up ourselves for easier crossing back to Tanga from Pemba - it paid off! After getting our anchor up, which wasn't fully cooperating with us on early departure we took off for the passage - which is not particular long, but 3knts currents and 20+kts winds from south insisted on altering our course, but it actually was a really nice and enjoyable sale. As we got back to Tanga - all excited for upcoming trip to South Africa with our friends we got some mixed news - Zivile needs visa (and doesn't have one)! So we haphazardly decide to go to town and get tickets to tomorrow bus going to Dar Es Salaam and visit South Africa Embassy ASAP... Hola amigos y amigas del canal! Ya estamos de vuelta en Wayra y esta vez, como ya sabéis, para quedarnos. Después de tanta espera ya nos hemos puesto manos a la obra!!! Llegar a Plataria ha sido una odisea, tardamos casi 60 hora en llegar desde Barcelona. Cogimos dos ferries, condujimos 7 horas y llegamos cansados pero ilusionados y con ganas de empezar. En este vídeo os enseñamos como fueron los dos primeros días de trabajo. Aprovechando que aún nos quedan cosas por llegar decidimos empezar a quitar la espuma de los techos y paredes e instalar los nuevos MPPT de los paneles solares que más adelante instalaremos. Las horas pasan demasiado rápido, parece increíble que en dos días solo hayamos hecho eso pero tenemos 3 meses y confiamos en que nos dará tiempo a realizar todos los proyectos que tenemos en mente. Desde aquí os queríamos agradecer a todas las personas que nos recomendasteis veleristas, valoramos varias opciones y nos quedamos con la que más se ajustaba a nuestro presupuesto.
