► And they’re off! Sunday January 7th at 13:30 local time, six sailors set off single-handed from Brest aboard the fastest offshore sailing machines for a round-the-world voyage via the great capes, no less! This challenge is being finally contested almost 20 years after it was first imagined. It will be one of the most demanding events, perhaps dethroning the unbreakable Vendée Globe (which follows the same course, but aboard 60-foot monohulls). This time, we’re talking about 100-foot-long (30 m) foiling trimarans capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots! This could well be the race of the century! Although conditions at the start were very favorable, with a good northeasterly flow and plenty of sunshine, the weather forecast does not augur well for what’s to come. Quite the contrary, in fact, as the competitors will have to adapt from day to day, which has nothing to do with a prepared and discreetly orchestrated start as part of a record – as a reminder, the famous solo record via the great capes without stopovers has been held since December 2017 by François Gabart on Macif in 42 days 16 hours 40 minutes and 35 seconds. The challenge, perhaps more than sailing a little faster than the other competitors, will undoubtedly be not to break anything: “Whoever manages to finish will have a good chance of winning”, predicts Charles Caudrelier, one of the four skippers who is (despite everything) playing to win. Eric Péron, who signed up at the last minute aboard an old Ultim “that doesn’t fly”, shares the same analysis: “This competition isn’t going to be decided on a strategic move. We’re starting out together, but we’ll have to wear blinkers. It’s up to each of us to manage our machines. Finding the right balance, knowing how to repair breakages, and when there’s no trouble, anticipating so that a breakage and prevent it from happening!” But what awaits the winner? A magnificent trophy, eternal respectability and a check for €200,000 (the cost of the entry ticket to the race) all the same. Just ahead of the start, we got the chance to meet Armel Le Cléac’h, who invited us aboard his sea-going giant Banque Populaire XI. He confided to us that he had taken on board 50 days’ worth of supplies... After two years of sailing now perfectly reliable Ultim, the Breton sailor declared himself serene. To maneuver his Ultim alone, his cockpit features two helm stations, two pairs of winches and all the hydraulic controls on board - raising and lowering appendages, sail trimming, rig tension... Inside, Armel can count on a very complete chart table to port. Opposite this, his living area allows him to prepare meals - which, as you’d expect, are very basic - and rest on his beanbag mattress, which hugs his body and guarantees a certain degree of comfort even in heavy weather. Beneath the skipper’s feet, a vast locker stores sails and equipment at the lowest, most central point. Fair winds Armel! ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Our first stay at a Boondockers Welcome is incredible. Goats, cows, awesome hosts, cool people, and a beautiful property! Aria gets a taste of what it takes to run a small hobby farm and how to take care of the animals. We need to get to the ocean though so onward we go. We get treated to some beautiful fall foliage along the way...STUNNING! We get to experience our first Cracker Barrel (both camping and for dinner). Unfortunately, we are learning about toll roads in the USA. Us lucky Canadians don't appreciate these silly things. We travel through multiple states; Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and finally Maryland....Our toes hit the water! We make it across the freaking continent! The excitement and anticipation is growing for us as we get closer to sailboat hunting. The sea calls to those who listen. It speaks of freedom, adventure, and the unknown. We are Daria, Chris, and Jasper - we sail with two golden retrievers, Hachi and Luna. We recently lost our Bernese Mountain Dog, Mimsy. (RIP 09.02.2025). Our floating home, Ragdoll, has taken us on an incredible journey across the Atlantic coast, from the west coasts of Scotland to the sun-drenched waters of the Mediterranean. For two years, we lived aboard a 47ft monohull. Now, we’ve started on a new adventure aboard our 2008 Fountaine Pajot Orana 44, embracing the beauty, chaos, and unpredictability of life at sea. Full-time work, homeschooling, storms, sunsets—this is our reality. No script. No certainty. Just wind, waves, and the endless blue. Join us as we navigate life on the water, one adventure at a time. 💙 Enjoy our content? Don’t be a stranger! Subscribe, hit that like button, and ring the bell so you never miss an episode. Your support means the world to us, and we love hearing from you in the comments! 🐾 Who are we? We’re a family of three with two adventure-loving dogs. Sailing with pets isn’t always easy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We started our journey exploring the remote and breathtaking Scottish isles before setting course for the Mediterranean in 2023. With no fixed route, we go where the wind and life take us. ⛵ Ragdoll is now a 2008 Fountaine Pajot Orana 44, a catamaran that gives us more space, comfort, and stability as we continue our life at sea. IN THIS VIDEO: Join us aboard our #Balance #catamaran GoTFO⛵️ as we sail to Dominica and overtake other boats with style 😎. In this episode, we explain how to use #daggerboards for optimal performance—raise the daggerboard to the sky with the blue line, and send it to hell with the red line! 🌬️ As we pass Dominica’s mountainous terrain, we go from 20+ knots of wind to a total wind shadow—classic island effect! We show how to adjust daggerboards in these shifting conditions to maintain speed and control. ⚓ We grab a mooring ball in Roseau, and Ann navigates solo by dinghy to check us into Dominica customs—with a little help from a local legend named Ken. Meanwhile, Dennis and Schatzi explore ashore and meet fellow YouTubers: 🎥 Green Room Pythons🎥 Dāv Kaufman Eats the World 🏝️ Then we tour Dominica with THE Rick James—no, not that Rick James (but yes, that riff of “Super Freak” makes an appearance 😄). Our incredible highlights: • Real vanilla extract from a roadside stand • Dominica’s upcoming aerial tramway • Twin Trafalgar Waterfalls 💦 • Sulfur springs & hot springs • Freshwater Lake and hydroelectric pipes • Hummingbirds, bamboo homes, sausage trees & a parrot sanctuary • Titou Gorge – where Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was filmed 🏴‍☠️ • And much more… 🎉 After releasing our mooring, we sail 20 miles north to Portsmouth, #Dominica, reefing along the way—Ann explains our easy zip tie reefing system. Once there, we enjoy:🥩 Lobster at Waterfront Reggae Spot (call ahead!)🥩 Steak dinner (compliments of the Captain!)🎶 Party on the bow under the stars Next stop: #Guadeloupe! One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, sold everything that we owned, and shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa. We then flew there and explored South Africa by way of a safari and touring Cape Town before moving aboard our boat. We then sailed to Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha (Brazil), Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French side), the US Virgin Islands (Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas), the British Virgin Islands (Anegada, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke, and Anegada), The Bahamas (Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, the Exumas, and Eleuthera). We then sailed back to the United States, making landfall in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there our destinations are endless! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. Ann (the ship's Captain) wrote Test Automation in Python and Java. Dennis and Ann met on Match.com where Ann had in her profile "Do you want to sail the world with me?" Ann easily brought Dennis into sailing, and he loved the GTFOplan of retiring early and sailing the world. After many years of saving, living on one income but earning two, and cutting back on everything possible, they saved enough to buy a Balance 482. Follow them as they get real about boat life and all the hassles of buying a new boat because we all know N.E.W. means Not Everything Works. You can chase sunsets and build a business. You can serve five-star dishes and grow something of your own. In this special feature, Noah shares how he found his path, what inspired him to launch a business while working full-time at sea, and how he's balancing both passions with purpose and drive.

As we transition to a life at sea aboard “Moments in Time”, there will be some things I will truly miss from land life. One of these will be enjoying fresh heirloom tomatoes from my garden. I will pick the tomatoes everyday and line them up on the counter. However, the best, the biggest, the ripest of them seem to disappear, leaving me tomatoes that require me to gerrymander around all the bad spots. I know it is not aliens coming down to take them, at least I do not think so, but Toni and the grandkids seem suspiciously happy, and it always look like they have red stains around their smiling mouths, like tomato stains. One day I will get the best tomatoes, that is the dream anyway. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share in the adventure!
