We set off from Pučišća to Vela Luka on a 32 nautical mile journey—our last stop in Croatia before the big night crossing to Italy. What should have been a calm preparation day turned into a test of nerves and equipment. Near a quiet bay, the wind suddenly picked up—blowing 30 knots and gusting to 40. I had to use Dyneema line to reinforce the solar panel mounts and protect the system that powers our entire boat. It was rough, loud, and totally unexpected. This video also includes our first test of noise-cancelling tech to reduce the sound of the autopilot—something you’ve asked for in the comments! Big thanks for the feedback. This video covers the moment the engine told me something was wrong. On startup I heard a sharp clack, clack, clack — the kind of sound that immediately tells you to stop and reassess. A suspected hydraulic lock is not something you push through. If you get it wrong, you destroy the engine. So the decision was immediate. Sails down, boat stopped, and a full shift from passage-making to problem management. From that point on it was about protecting the boat, conserving power, and understanding exactly what was happening before taking any further action. This is the difference between continuing blindly and recognizing when a situation has the potential to escalate into a serious failure. This is not about fixing things quickly. Sailing Coco We slip away from the best anchorage we have seen in the last few months, Greece welcomed us well with such a fantastic island, amazing people and amazing food. We leave our anchorage in the worst rain, in fact the only rain we have seen since being in the Med. We spend the day sailing down the west coast of Corfu stopping off for lunch along the way. As night sets in Mother Nature treats us well by stopping the rain. But as soon as the rain stopped and the sun went down, we spend the night playing dodge the lightning strikes. We had about 3 thunderstorms surrounding us all night which was fun!! Once we finished playing and the sun greeted us in the morning, we were treating to GREAT winds and amazing scenes as we sail 50 NM from Corfu down to Patras, leaving us about 2-3 days from the Corinth Canal.
