After two severe days, Sotogrande and the Andalusian coastline laid on perfect conditions for the final day of competition at the RC44 Sotogrande Cup. Mountainous seas gave way to a short chop, torrential rain gave way to brilliant sunshine and a stiff but shifty 20 knot, westerly offshore wind, to provide the tacticians with some welcome head scratching. Despite this idyllic scenario for the crews and a tight leaderboard to resolve, today was formidably taxing for PRO Peter Reggio and team as the wind repeatedly shifted causing numerous general recalls. It also proved treacherous for the crews with numerous 'hero to zero' moments across the fleet. None was worse than that of Team Aqua. Having increased their lead to five points after the first race, Team Aqua were on track to consolidate their position in the second race until they caught a decent sized wave that buried the bow breaking the bowsprit. The crew rallied to fit a replacement just before the shut-off for the final race of the day. In this, amazingly, the three frontrunners were last to the weather mark. At the second weather mark rounding Team Aqua had recovered fourth place, which they hung on to the finish. winning them the RC44 Sotogrande Cup title while Peninsula Petroleum, which came home last, took second overall. To go with our grey boat theme we opted to paint our custom speaker plates. I did like the wood grain but it just didn't work with anything else in the boat. We used paint to seal the wood then added Kiwi Grip to add texture. All the materials used for this project were scrapes from other projects so the cost was so low just time. The reason for this project because the old speakers in the boat were rust 6x9s and we had 6.5 speakers lying around. The holes they had cut into the boat were in a place that when the 6x9 was mounted it had a large gape because of a curve in the body mold. The new speaker panels to about an hour to cut out and paint, and covered the 6x9 hole without the gap, while covering the rust and ugliness left by the old speakers. This Beneteau First 50 is a Briand design, fast sailing yacht with a modern interior. In 2008 she was "The Yacht of the Year". She is good to sail with two people because of the strong engine, e-winch, retractable bow thruster, big cockpit and good view over the entire yacht. She has a very clear, nice and roomy interior, lots of storage space, nice bed and bathrooms for the owner and his guests. "Christiane" is in the hands of the first owner who liked to have many options and kept her in good condition. Episode 014 We managed to enjoy a couple of 'nice' days since leaving the marina. A night spent anchored in Islington Bay, listening to the sound of rain whilst we sat in our cockpit protected by our newly installed cockpit enclosure reminded us why we chose to live this lifestyle. With just a few other boats anchored around us, we felt all alone in this beautiful anchorage listening to the calls of the tīeke (saddleback). This was a welcome relief from all the work we had just done on Tāiko after several weeks on the hard stand installing Tāiko's new Beta Marine engine and other jobs. However, this tranquility does not last long and we soon need to find shelter. In this video we spend a few days anchored off Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf waiting for severe gales to pass and Adam has an opportunity to put all that he's read and learned into practice and test out our storm anchoring. Some weather was predicted and some not. We experienced 50 knots of wind for several days, thunderstorms and lightning directly over Tāiko, torrential rain, and there were added weather warnings of possible tornadoes forming. We were not alone though, just one other boat and us saw this adverse weather event out in Home Bay. After having just been through another squall within this system, within minutes the wind, rain, and lightning stopped and there was blazing sunshine! We kid you not. The bay was like a millpond. Like it never happened. At first we were nervous to weigh anchor and move on in case another squall made an appearance but eventually we did. We had to motor the whole way! We are sailing! Sailing to Baie-Mahault on the north side of Guadeloupe. It's a tough beating against the wind to get to the north side and a long and very small passage into the anchorage but we are rewarded with the flattest of waters and some really good sleep! In past days, it was possible to go with a sailing vessle between the north and south side of Guadeloupe, using the passage between the two "butterfly wings". Today, as they no longer open the bridges, only small boats can go this way. Rather than taking the bus to do some errands in the marina, we decided to take the dinghy! Maybe we should have had a slightly bigger outboard engine, but let's give it a try anyway! Glad to have you onboard! Fair winds! On examine les solutions natives via fichiers harmonic, puis le plugin frcurrents et enfin les solutions via fichiers GRIB de courant. We’d been wanting to visit Middle Percy Island for years - Jason to return, and Kym to have her first visit - and it didn’t disappoint. This remote Coral Sea gem is a favourite among cruising yachties, and for good reason. Anchored at West Bay, we stepped ashore to visit the legendary A-frame hut, where boaties from around the world leave their mark and share stories over drinks and wood-fired pizzas. Built in 1979, this rustic meeting place is packed with history and the spirit of camaraderie. We also tackled the one-hour hike up to the old Homestead to learn about the island’s unusual past, meet the local caretaker, and soak in the views. Another unique part of Percy life? The Percy Island Yacht Club. Formed to help with the island’s upkeep, it’s run by cruisers for cruisers, keeping this special place open for all who follow. This island was absolutely stunning and we hope to return one day. For now, we're sharing the magic with you. Thanks for watching.
