Was tun, wenn auf dem Segeltörn etwas zu Schaden kommt? Egal ob am eigenen Schiff oder an einer anderen Yacht, bzw. einem Dritten. Wen muss ich kontaktieren, wann brauche ich ein Schadenprotokoll, wer ist mein Ansprechpartner und wer unterstützt mich? Täglich sind unzählige Charterschiffe auf dem Wasser. Nicht selten kommt es da auch mal zu einem Schaden. Es reißen Segel, man bleibt beim ein- oder ausparken am Nebenschiff hängen, man verfängt sich in einer Mooring Leine oder setzt mit dem Rumpf auf. Diese und noch zig weitere Szenarien ereignen sich immer wieder. Meist ist es für die Crew das erste Mal, dass etwas zu Schaden kommt und es stellt sich die Frage: Wie verhalte ich mich in so einer Situation? We set off down the west coast of Italy, heading past Capri sailing in between the biggest dolphin pod we have seen yet. Yet again we are shown another one of mother natures most amazing sunsets. The sun drops just past the island of Capri as we head south down towards Sicily. Again, as soon as the dolphins came out to play Ceylan was up on the bow with the camera, capturing every moment, it was sooo funny seeing the baby dolphins belly flopping in the water playing on the bow of the boat. We continue sailing through the night and are greeted in the morning with the most unbearable heat we have ever experienced, so we decided to head into shore, drop the anchor and have a dip! We find ourselves scraping along the sea bed when coming into shore for reasons unbeknown to me.... Ceylan was on the helm HAHA. But we managed to escape unharmed with no damage. L'8 novembre 2019 una violenta tromba d'aria si è abbattuta sul porticciolo di Santa Marinella distruggendo molte barche della flotta Este 24 e in particolare le 2 barche del Centro Velico Universitario, la scuola vela punto di riferimento nel Lazio per gli studenti universitari e non solo. Siamo tutti molto scossi e amareggiati per l'accaduto, con queste barche trasmettiamo da anni la nostra passione per il mare e per la vela e ora la nostra Associazione ha un grande bisogno del vostro supporto per poter ricominciare prima possibile le nostre attività. In attesa di valutare gli ingenti danni che hanno riportato gli scafi, abbiamo urgenza di rimettere in sesto i carrelli stradali su cui sono poggiate e ordinare i nuovi alberi e il sartiame, andati completamente distrutti. Non disponendo di risorse economiche sufficienti per far fronte a questo sfortunato imprevisto, vi saremo grati e riconoscenti se vorrete contribuire, in qualsiasi modo, alla riparazione delle nostre barche e a far tornare il sorriso a tutti i nostri associati.

Leaving Monkey Mia we sail around the spectacular headland of Cape Peron North with it's incredible red and white sand dunes. As we approach Denham we have a couple of playful dolphins play at our bow. After refuelling with jerry cans and a quick look around Denham, we head across Shark Bay to Dirk Hartog Island and down Blind Strait dropping anchor at Shelter Point. Leaving in the dark, we head around Steep Point and south towards Geraldton. Dodging fish farms, ships and countless cray pot floats, we arrive in Geraldton where we visit the Geraldton Museum where we had been keen to see Batavia exhibition. Finally we visit the beautiful and thoughtfully designed HMAS Sydney II Memorial. After tearing down the van, Amanda and Geoff make their way toward Cannon Beach, Oregon. When they arrive at Tolovana State Park, they are greeted by some very cute visitors. They continue their walk toward Haystack Rock where they encounter an unexpected ecosystem including crabs and sea stars. They proceed to make their way to a hidden gem for breakfast: the Lazy Susan Cafe. They tell all about the famous Marionberry Scone that was consumed. The duo continue driving south where they end up at Oswald State Park. Amanda and Geoff proceed down a hiking path to visit the infamous Devils Cauldron—where they make a wrong turn. After a long walk back to the van, they decide to reward their efforts with ice cream from Tillamook Creamery. The Mittens tour the cheese making facility before rating six different flavors of ice cream. The couple continues their journey to Lincoln City, Oregon before visiting the Chinook Casino for a bit. A railroad bridge is stuck down, so we have to anchor early in the afternoon in Portsmouth, VA. Fog the next morning delays our start, but we eventually make our way to the start of the Great Dismal Swamp, where we encounter our first-ever lock and finish our day crossing the North Carolina state line. The final day of the 2023 Southern Wind Rendezvous started in light breeze that only got lighter as the day went on. Much as the fleet would have liked to get a final group sail in, the weather conditions were nevertheless perfect for some fun in the sun. The Southern Wind fleet headed off to the Pevero bay to show what aft opening beach platforms are all about.
