In this episode I tackle a fiberglass defies gravity project. hanging fiberglass upside down isn't all that difficult, but there is a trick to it. gravity is always pulling down on your wet out fiberglass. to get it to say up while it cures or defies gravity, requires a surface wet out with thickened epoxy, let it sit until it gets tacky, then lay up the fiberglass cloth dry, and wet out in place with epoxy thinned with acetone. this system works great, the acetone evaporates leaving the wet out fabric and epoxy to cure. this process can be repeated to laminate as many layers as needed to make up the required thickness. Infatti da questa posizione si può servire sia la zona del salone interno, che la zona del pozzetto esterno senza avere nulla d'intralcio. Ovviamente la cucina è fornita di tutto quello che può servire. Infatti oltre alla piastra di cottura, alle celle frigorifere, alla lavastoviglie, al forno, al lavandino ed ai vari ripostigli è presente anche un frigorifero dedicato ai i vini pregiati. Il salone ed il pozzetto si trovano sullo stesso livello divisi da una vetrata completamente apribile. Questo da un senso di grande profondità e di comodità. Au bout d'une heure de piste bien accidentée en 4x4, nous arrivons sur une petite plage déserte, où seuls quelques téméraires marcheurs foulent son sable après 5 heures de marche par le sentier des douaniers. Les vaches sauvages, les oiseaux et les papillons seront nos principales interactions. Première baignade pour Ombeline dans les eaux peu profondes et chaudes de la baie. We take a very slow down wind sail in company on the best weekend of the year so far! Weather great, wind, minimal.. I also have a rant regarding the power boaters who deem it FairPlay to blast past at 20kts in a 20m vessel... not good.. saw a fisherman nearly flipped out of his small boat.. As I mention I love a powerboat as much as the next person BUT I don't like the lack of consideration for others especially bordering on dangerous!! Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Par une belle journée ensoleillée, nous sommes partis pour une petite navigation à bord de Jael, le bateau de Jérôme et Audrey. À bord, quelques amis nous accompagnaient, un peu nerveux mais curieux — c’était leur toute première sortie en mer. Très vite, l’ambiance est devenue joyeuse et détendue. Jérôme à la barre, Audrey aux manœuvres : tout roulait parfaitement. Les novices ont découvert avec émerveillement la sensation de glisser sur l’eau, le vent dans les cheveux, le clapotis des vagues contre la coque. Mais le moment le plus magique de la sortie reste sans doute la rencontre inattendue avec un groupe de dauphins. Ils ont surgi près du bateau, jouant dans les vagues et nous accompagnant un petit moment, sous les cris d’émerveillement de tout le monde. Après quelques heures de navigation paisible, retour impeccable au port. Une manœuvre tout en douceur, des sourires sur tous les visages, et des souvenirs plein la tête. Une belle initiation à la voile réussie, grâce à Jael et à ses formidables capitaines !

It took a couple hours of waiting around under the hot sun, but when Mother Nature decided to cooperate, she did so in full force and anyone who was lucky enough to be in the area was able to see the majesty of the Phuket King's Cup under full sail. Famed lensman Guy Nowell was able to capture the beauty of the scene and his fabulous images are on the regatta's website. There are so many highly skilled sailors competing in this regatta, including Olympic participants and champions as well as many veterans of the famed Rolex Sydney-Hobart race. There are also a couple World Match Racing stars, including Adam Minoprio sailing on Team Hollywood (he also sailed in the America's Cup) as well as Mati Sepp, helming Gern Kard.

Slowly getting back into the groove of boatlife, we head out for a spear in search of sea monsters and come back with a boatload of Spanish Mackerel. 45-Knot Rescue, Scuba Certification & Discovering the Real Greece This week’s episode has it all—adrenaline, adventure, and a heartwarming discovery about what truly makes Greece unforgettable. It all began when I had to jump aboard another sailboat and take the helm as skipper in the middle of 45 knots of screaming wind. Their anchor was dragging fast, and the inexperienced crew was struggling to control the situation. With no time to lose, I maneuvered their boat back into a safe position and helped them re-moor. It was a reminder of one of the best things about sailing—the community spirit. Out here, we look out for each other, because one day you’re the helper, and the next, you might be the one needing a hand. After the stormy drama, we sailed to the Chalkidiki Peninsula and entered the beautiful Miraggio Marina, which would become our home for the next three weeks. And what an incredible three weeks they were… The Blonde took on a new challenge—earning her PADI Scuba Diving Certification with the fantastic SeaRacer Diving Academy. Under the expert guidance of Tomas—the best instructor we’ve ever met—and the warm hospitality of the center’s owner, Dimitry, the experience was flawless. If you’re planning to get your PADI certification in Greece, we cannot recommend this dive center enough. The marina staff were equally amazing—professional, friendly, and always ready to help. It was here that we realized something important: we’ve been wrong about Greece all along. D'ici ce soir aux alentours de 22 heures, 5 concurrents auront franchi la longitude du 67°17'21''. Pendant ce temps, à l'avant, MACIF et Banque Populaire se rapprochent du centre de l'anticyclone de Sainte Hélène. Les trompettes du Horn ne vont pas arrêter de retentir ce mercredi, comme pour fêter ces 2 mois de course. Et ce sont celles de la renommée pour Mike Golding (Gamesa) qui fête son 6e passage (dont trois à l'envers !) et son poursuivant Dominique Wavre (Mirabaud), le vétéran, pour qui c'est le 9e Horn en course : un record toute catégorie. « On navigue sur un cimetière à bateaux et j'ai un respect énorme pour tous ces marins qui nous ont précédé ici » déclarait le navigateur suisse. Stamm va annoncer son abandon Pour son compatriote Bernard Stamm, 3e à doubler le rocher à 12h49mn TU (13h49 heure française), cette étape marque le commencement d'une aventure différente. La rencontre avec son « bateau ravitailleur » Pakea Bizcaïa a bien eu lieu. Cheminées Poujoulat a reçu du carburant et est arrêté au mouillage sous le vent de l'île du Horn, au nord du phare qui signale ce petit bout du monde. Une fois ses batteries rechargées, il signifiera son abandon et reprendra la route vers les Sables d'Olonne, hors course. Ce soir, ce sera au tour d'Arnaud Boissières (AKENA Vérandas) et de Javier Sanso (Acciona 100% EcoPowered) de mettre le clignotant à gauche. Bientôt ils ne seront plus que trois bateaux à dévaler les pentes liquides du Pacifique. Bertrand de Broc (Votre Nom autour du Monde avec EDM Projets) et Tanguy de Lamotte (Initiatives-cœur) viennent d'y vivre des moments difficiles. Ce dernier a mis des heures à se remettre de la récupération de son reacher dans l'eau (suite à une rupture de drisse). Une opération exténuante qui l'a complètement lessivé. Le ton éternellement jovial d'Alessandro Di Benedetto ne cache pas ses soucis domestiques: après le démontage intégral du moteur de Team Plastique, il est intervenu sur sa grand voile pour changer un boîtier de latte. 60 jours, c'est long et c'est court Déjà deux mois de mer. Cela paraît si long. Mais pour les marins dont le quotidien est rythmé par la performance et l'entretien du bateau, le temps, finalement, ne suspend jamais son vol. Dominique Wavre, émerveillé par son passage du Horn au milieu d'une joyeuse bande dauphins, se voyait presque rester là indéfiniment. « C'est quand même assez fabuleux d'être autonome sur nos voiliers, on fabrique notre propre énergie, on a l'impression qu'on pourrait continuer encore des mois et des mois comme ça. La vie est d'une très grande densité sur ce genre de course et le temps passe vite». Bien sûr, ils rêvent tous d'une douche chaude, de courir, d'engloutir un copieux steak-frite ou d'embrasser leurs proches. Mais la plupart vivent leur voyage dans l'épanouissement. « Ça part de là, on ne lâche rien ! » En tête de course, en pleine traversée au près de l'anticyclone de Sainte-Hélène, François Gabart (MACIF) a pris un petit ascendant sur son dauphin. 100 milles très exactement. Le skipper de Banque Populaire doit regretter son décalage dans l'ouest opéré il y a quelques jours, car il s'est transformé en écart en distance au but. Mais ses proches et ses adversaires vous le diront tous : Armel Le Cléac'h n'est pas du style à baisser les bras au moindre contretemps. Dans quelques heures, les deux hommes, qui ont déjà ralenti, devront virer dans l'axe de la dorsale. A quel moment déclencher cette manœuvre ? Théoriquement, le plus tard possible (cela permet de ressortir avec un meilleur angle) mais il y a toujours un risque de se retrouver encalminé... Un fois ce virement effectué, ce sera sus aux alizés ! Dans le sud-est de Rio, par 30 degrés sud, les températures commencent à redevenir agréables : elles frôlent les 20 degrés. Pour l'occasion, Armel a ressorti sa tenue printemps/ été 2013. Et c'est en short, T-shirt, lunettes de soleil et crème protectrice qu'il s'attèlera bientôt à sa nouvelle mission : revenir au contact de son meilleur ennemi.

Chief Johnson and his small community have been welcoming cruisers for many years. Nebul bay is the closest safe anchorage to Olal, where Cultural Festivals are held each year in July and August. Chief Johnson invited all BPO yachts to visit his community. We had a memorable B’day dinner organized in his house for one of the BPO cruisers… Since many of the BPO sailors are volunteer trained specialists in vision screening and members of the H.I.T. supporter team, we offered free eye testing to young and old. They lead all investigations to the best of their knowledge and belief. Participants are thus able to carry out visual acuity and autorefractor provisions under screenings conditions to children and adults. The project of H.I.T. Foundation: “SAVE CHILDREN’S SIGHT FOR A BETTER CHANCE IN LIFE” is able to detect visual defects of children, adolescents and young adults at an early stage. Approximately 20% of all children and young people have learning difficulties by undetected visual defects. Only if visual defects are detected and rectified early, children have good opportunities for learning, performance and a self-determined successful future. Some disclaimers: ˚ The H.I.T. vision screening is available, if there are no other or better options for vision correction onsite. ˚ The H.I.T. vision screening is as accurate as possible under the local circumstances. However, it does not measure up to the precise measurements taken and handled by an optician, optometrist or ophthalmologist in a professional environment! ˚ Therefore, neither the local examiner nor the H.I.T. Institute can be made liable for the results of the H.I.T. measurements and the effectiveness of the transferred eye-glasses. ˚ The final decision for participation in the H.I.T vision screening is made by the guardians/parents of the children and they are, therefore, fully responsible and not H.I.T. ˚ When there is no realistic possibility for an examination with an optometrist or at an eye clinic, there is a good chance that the H.I.T. vision screening program will detect visual defects and thus eye treatments can be applied in time. After the testing session, the BPO cruisers got the opportunity to see how kava was prepared and taste it! Most were a little apprehensive after the kava experience they had a few weeks earlier in Fiji (some had upset stomach) but after liking the taste, most went for a second roundJ Next morning, nobody felt ill and all reported a nice night sleep!
