Les deux leaders naviguent au près et dès cette nuit, ils seront même dans la brise. Du vent fort aussi, pour les 9 concurrents du Pacifique, mais au portant et dans une mer exécrable. Alessandro Di Benedetto fête aujourd'hui ses 42 ans dans 41 nœuds de vent. Mais le skipper de Team Plastique en a vu d'autres et n'est pas du style à se laisser abattre. Après le sorbet au citron à la grêle du Grand Sud, il a testé aujourd'hui la fleur de sel du Pacifique pour assaisonner son foie gras d'anniversaire. Depuis le début de la course, Alessandro ne s'est jamais départi de sa jovialité, quelles que soient les circonstances. Une bonne humeur communicative, rehaussée par son accent italien imprégné de soleil. Avec lui, les conditions les plus grises ou les plus glauques se transforment instantanément en délicieuses tranches de vie dans la Grand Sud. Le Franco-italien a franchi aujourd'hui la porte Nouvelle-Zélande, à plus de 5000 milles des leaders... Séparation de trafic ? 630 milles dans le nord-est des Malouines, à la sortie d'un anticyclone, Armel Le Cléac'h vient de passer à l'attaque. Juste avant le Live de la mi-journée, le skipper de Banque Populaire qui naviguait déjà au près dans un vent de nord-ouest, a viré de bord, se distinguant ainsi de son adversaire. Depuis le départ du Vendée Globe, Armel a tendance à préférer les routes les plus courtes aux routes les plus rapides. Ce fut le cas dans le contournement de l'anticyclone de Sainte Hélène lors de la descente de l'Atlantique, puis au passage de la porte Crozet. Jusqu'à présent, cette stratégie lui a toujours souri. Aucune raison, donc, pour qu'il en change. Si son choix se confirme, il aura devant lui plusieurs virements de bord à effectuer dans ce vent de nord-ouest qui fraichira bientôt jusqu'à 25-30 nœuds à l'approche d'une dépression orageuse venue d'Uruguay. De son côté, François Gabart (MACIF) persiste en poursuivant son cap vers l'Est. « On fera les comptes au Brésil » lançait Le Cléac'h à midi. En attendant, tout deux ont du pain sur la planche. En dehors de la petite journée de répit après le passage du cap Horn, ils n'ont jamais molli. Armel n'a même pas eu le temps de raser sa barbe de 30 jours qui lui tient toujours aussi chaud... Virbac-Paprec 3 et dans une moindre mesure Hugo Boss, risquent de profiter de la laborieuse progression des deux sisterships de tête pour se refaire lentement mais sûrement une petite santé. A chaque pointage, Jean-Pierre Dick réduit son écart : il a gagné 81 milles ces dernières 24 heures. Alex, lui est davantage préoccupé par les réparations à effectuer sur son hydrogénérateur défaillant. Pour le marin britannique, c'est un impératif : pas assez de carburant pour être autonome en énergie jusqu'au bout. Rêves de mers plates Le reste de la troupe cravache tant bien que mal dans le Grand Sud. Et tous caressent le même espoir : naviguer enfin dans un vent léger et sur une mer plate. Derrière SynerCiel, le club des 5 s'est affranchi de la dernière porte de sécurité Pacifique. Mais leur route vers le cap Horn au sein d'une vaste dépression, est sacrément cabossée. Le vent très instable (25 nœuds moyens, rafales à plus de 35) contraint les solitaires à manœuvrer et régler incessamment. Et la mer est toujours croisée, avec des vagues de 4 à 5 mètres qui viennent par le travers. Jean Le Cam sera le premier à sortir de cette marmite, lundi matin... Dans ce groupe, Stamm est de loin le plus rapide depuis 48 heures. Après avoir doublé Arnaud Boissières, il n'a fait qu'une bouchée de Javier Sanso. Le Jury a reçu ce matin le rapport du bateau russe sur lequel Cheminées Poujoulat s'était amarré lors de son escale dans l'île d'Auckland. Il est en train de l'examiner avant de prendre une décision concernant une réouverture du dossier...

We get a new crew member! After a lot of begging and some tears the boys dream finally came true and they got a dog! Ruby, a Havanese puppy has joined us aboard Hangtime and has certainly made the boat feel even more like a home. She has a sweet temperament, doesn’t make a lot noise and loves to snuggle. We enjoyed a memorable evening in Mabou, Cape Breton at the family square dance and then sailed 170 miles to Newfoundland. We were in awe of the rugged beauty, harsh landscapes and warm people. Hello boat builders! My name is Jop and I'm a mechanical engineer from the Netherlands. In my spare time I'm converting and old Danish bunker tanker into a classic steam-tug houseboat here in the harbour of Copenhagen.

After attempting to align the rudder tube correctly, I needed to remove the nylon bearings/bushings so as to be able to weld the post in place without destroying the bearings.
