The ship was scuttled by the Germans in August. The hull was raised and remodelled in July 1949. On Sunday, October 22, 1961, an explosion occurred in the engine room when the ship was anchored off Grenada in the Caribbean. As fires broke out, approximately 700 passengers and crew scrambled to abandon the ship while Grenadian fishermen near the harbor of St. George's rushed to help. One crewman died immediately, and eight others were injured. The ship burned for two days awaiting a fireboat and many were worried that it would sink and block the main harbor. A team boarded the burning ship to attach a towline. As the ship was sinking, she was dragged offshore, with the anchors still sitting in the entrance of the harbor. As she listed, a squall moved in. The towline broke and she sank in 165 feet of water just 5 km from where she first caught fire. I visited the Bianca C on a press trip to Grenada. I was diving recreationally on the tour, but to dive the deeper wreck I would need technical dive gear - two tanks and a decompression bottle filled with oxygen. It is unusual for a diver to rent a full technical dive gear package, but it was worth it for the chance to see the large ship. To dive the Bianca C, the dive plan requires you to jump in and use the current to push you along the hull, surfacing on the far end. Before my dive, I checked my scuba gear and everything seemed in order. A young divemaster offered to carry my twinset from the shop to the boat. It was his first day and he was eager to help out. I wasn’t going to ignore an offer of assistance and thanked the new employee. Right before my dive I checked my gear one last time, being extra paranoid since it was not my own. The water was clear and the wreck took shape as we descended to the depths. The current was swift, and I started rolling off pictures and we drifted along. I noticed that I was using gas rather quickly — perhaps a few nerves from using borrowed gear? As we reached the far end of the ship, I knew there was no time to hang around. I signalled to the rest of the team to begin our ascent. They looked surprised, since I rarely called a dive first. I was surprised that I had such a short bottom time, but the other were getting close to turn time so I thought nothing of it until I reached the surface. Topside, the Divemaster asked me why I had used up so much gas. It was then that I checked my tanks one more time. The isolation valve on the manifold that connects the two tanks had been turned off. I knew I had checked it. I had done the entire dive on the equivalent of a single tank. I looked up to see the new employee looking puzzled. As it turned out, he had disabled the valve connecting the two tanks when I stood on the swim platform ready to jump in the water. Behind my back he had turned off the manifold mistaking the closed open position for closed. He had never worked with double tanks before and made a mistake that he will never forget! I still had a nice dive, even though it was short, and I have this photo to recall the beautiful place.

Vale conferir.

The Ragged Islands are a remote chain of islands in the Bahamas. To sail there, you have to pick a good weather window as there is little protection from the islands if there is a big blow or if the winds shift from the East. Also, the anchorages are very rolly, so it can be a challenge to stay too long. But, we found a good weather window and a buddy boat to travel with and we were off. It was a sporty sail to Flamingo Cay, but we made it. We then sailed down to the final island, Little Ragged Cay. It's the farthest South that we wanted to go before making our way North again by island hopping. After two days in Little Ragged Cay and a short visit to the only town in the Raggeds, we headed North to Hog Cay to join a dozen or so boats already in the anchorage. Brown was so excited to visit the Hog Cay Yacht Club, a place he had been talking about for years. #sailing #bahamas #raggeds #raggedislands #hogcay #lobsters #lobsterhunt #flamingocay #littleragged #hogcay NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Whale hey there fronds and anemones! T'was an eggstraordinary dive that day last September at Monastery Beach—join ya buoy underwaterpat for a shellebrocean of a dive with egg yolk jellies in Monterey Bay! Monastery Beach has some of the best shore diving in all of California, thanks to a finger of the Carmel Canyon (an offshoot of the Monterey Submarine Canyon further offshore) that funnels ocean swell and deep water directly to this infamous stretch of coast. 100 yards from shore, a SCUBA diver finds themselves just beyond a wash rock surrounded by an algal amphitheater that I like to call "The Kelp Kathedral". Nestled in its pews are schools of blue rockfish, awesome anemones, colorful critters—and sometimes, glorious gelatinous drifters like these egg yolk jellyfishes (Phacellophora camtschatica) caught up in the current events of that year. This was one of my favroite dives of last year, and I'm so thrilled to be sharing it with you all now! Heads up—Monastery has a reputation, and for good reason. It's a powerful beach, and not to be taken lightly. I can't tell you what's right for you but, I live 15 minutes away, so I can pick my days and I don't ever feel a need to commit to anything sketchy with that beach. I can always come back. Be careful, seek training, be honest with yourself, practice your skills, don't test your luck, and respect the ocean, always—and when the time is right, may Monastery be as giving to you as it has been to me for the last 15 years. Thanks y'all, I hope you enjoy the ep! Best sunfishes, Pat ___ Make shore to like and sub-scribe and comment for the algal rhythm! With the new season looming now, we get through a lot of jobs today and have some big wins but a couple of big failures too! Big wins are getting the Simrad TP10 Autohelm fitted and also the solar panel which has stuck down well. Also a lot of the fibreglassing has cured well and should mark the end of any more of that for the winter! The new motor pad is a different story though. It's just completely the wrong size and the bolts are almost 5cm out too. There's no way this will fit Lulu so we have to go back to Drascombe about that. I then get the centreboard slot measured up for a slot gasket that should help to keep water at bay if we ever get swamped and lastly we give Lulu's hull a good T-Cut and wax, leaving her all shiny and new as we leave. Interestingly you also get a quick look at the spring tides here on the Mersey which can sometimes cause a bore wave this far up. Enjoy! 00:00 Prepping the boat 02:45 Fitting the Simrad TP10 Autompilot 10:09 A swan on the Mersey! 10:32 Checking the latest Fibreglassing 12:21 Rain stops play!!! 13:17 (Trying) to fit the new motor pad 16:40 Fitting the solar panel 18:33 Centreboard slot cover 20:59 A nice hull waxing! 22:33 Spring tide on the Mersey 🌐 My new website: https://sailingwithdave.com ❤️ Comments are open, ask anything you want in the comments section! 📢 If you enjoyed this video, then please don't forget to share and let people know about the channel 🔔 Click here to "Subscribe" and never miss a video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZVuUVKKtVxulmgL3WzejjQ?sub_confirmation=1 @simrad-yachting

Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I just picked up. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind.

Merry Christmas from the Alaskan Gypsy. This video follows our holiday travel across Alaska as we bring all five kids together for Christmas. The journey starts in Wrangell, flying through Southeast Alaska to Anchorage, renting a car, driving to Homer to gather belongings, then heading back to Anchorage before flying everyone home to Wrangell. Once back, the kids see the Gypsy for the first time, Christmas lights are up, and the boat becomes home for the holidays. From winter travel logistics to first impressions, refit progress, freezing temperatures, and Christmas morning aboard, this is a real look at a family holiday spent in motion. Thanks to everyone who supported us along the way. More adventures ahead. VICTORY FOR LAZARUS CAPITAL PARTNERS Come from behind win in tough harbour conditions A 20-knots plus North East wind gave the Australian 18 Footers League fleet a challenging late afternoon series of three windward-leeward races on Sydney Harbour yesterday (Friday, 30 January) to determine the outcome of the annual Balmain Cup. With a number of capsizes before the racing began, it was obviously going to be a tough day out for the crews, and the prediction was correct as the series produced three different race winners and saw race officials reduce the final two races from the scheduled two laps to one lap of the course. After the three races, Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich, Marc Chapon and Rory Cox), with two fourth placings followed by a win in the third race, claimed victory with an overall score of 9 points, one ahead of Yandoo (Micah Lane, Fang Warren and Andy Martin) with a win, a third and sixth placing. Sixt (Jacob Marks, Alex Marinelli and Matt Doyle) also finished oon 10 points with a second, third and fifth placings. The day began brilliantly for the recently-crowned Australian champion Balmain team (Henry Larkings, Tom Grimes and Lachlan Pryor) which grabbed an early lead to take out the first race over a two-lap course. The orange coloured flyer led narrowly from Brisbane’s GC Sails at the weather mark and held off the Queenslander’s challenge to comfortable win when GC Sails capsized on the final gybe to the finish. In Race 2, Yandoo won the start from Balmain with Sixt, Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Keagan York), The Kitchen Maker (Lachlan Steel) and Smeg also prominent early. On such a short course (one lap), when Yandoo held a 20s lead at the weather mark, the experienced crew was never going to let a win slip from its grasp and defeated Balmain narrowly with Smeg (Ash Rooklyn, Ricky Bridge and Niall Morrow) in third place. With only one point separating Balmain (3 points) and Yandoo (4 points) the stage was set for a great final race between the two champion teams. The nearest challengers were Sixt (7 points) followed by Smeg and Lazarus, which were both on 8 points. At the weather mark it was GC Sails which held a narrow lead with Lazarus, Yandoo and Balmain hot on the norther’s tail as the fleet racing downwind for the finish line. The Balmain team almost had its hands on the Balmain Cup when it raced into second place behind Lazarus but a capsize on the final run threw everything away and appeared to assure Yandoo a series victory. Nothing could be taken as guaranteed on such a crazy day. Yandoo was unable to set a spinnaker and was forced to limp home in sixth place behind Lazarus, GC Sails (Scott Cunningham, Joel Turner and Dave Cunningham), Sixt, Vaikobi (Kirk Mitchell) and Smeg. Scattered showers and light winds did not deter over 150 beginners who enthusiastically participated in the sailing, windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding taster sessions that were on offer at the London-based Volvo Sailing Academy. Five of the UK's top sailors, including London 2012 bronze medallist Alexandra Rickham, were on hand to introduced first time sailors to the sport.

As guests of Bali and Beyond Travel Fair, we were invited to experience Bali Adventure Tours: white water rarfting trip on the Ayung River, and the Elephant Safari park where one can ride an elephant and interact with them. Bali Adventure Tours advertises the fact that they have the longest run on the river, as their launch point is much further up the river than all other rafting companies. The hike down the well-constructed stairway system to the river was impressionably steep steep with stunning views of the jungle environment. A regiment of rafts and guides await at the launch point. Thank goodness the rafts are well constructed and maintained. Playing bumper boats with other rafts and rocks soom made us stash the camera to concentrate on paddling! It was fun and refreshing, and at times a little eery as we passed inticately carved mossy shores feeling as if we were about to discover a lost civilization around the next bend. Back at the very new and clean rafting center, the restaurant was ready to renourish and renew us. The lunch buffet was copious with Indonesian and Western choices and lots of quality fresh ingredients. The second half of the day was spent at the Elephant Safari Park. We liked the fact that we got to interact with the elephants (riding them feeding, wading in the pool, feeling their trunks, and looking straight down their gullet!). The elephant talent show was hokey, more circus than educational. But the grounds and the museum/reception was well done and asthetically pleasing. We like the fact that these Sumatran elephants were "rescued" from work camps or abandonment and now live and reproduce in this sanctuary. We thank Nigel Mason, founder and developer of Bali Adventure Tours and Elephant Safari Park and his marketing staff for inviting us and letting us experience these two very different activities. Filmed in June 2014.
