For seven days, we took our floating home — a 39-foot Jeanneau sailboat named Stella — completely off-grid to test if we’re truly ready to sail around the world. In this episode, we sail 32 nautical miles around Langkawi, Malaysia, through limestone cliffs, hidden inlets, and dense mangroves that feel like another world. We discovered the famous “Hole in the Wall,” a secret passageway where no other sailboats were anchored, and had it all to ourselves. From monkeys in the trees to eagles soaring overhead, it felt like living inside a wild, untouched paradise. But living off-grid on a sailboat isn’t always easy — and this week threw everything at us. ⚡ We battled huge storms during rainy season, climbed the mast after our furler jammed, and faced battery issues that tested our new electrical system. At the same time, we finally got to try out our new solar panels, davits, and tender, putting Stella to the test as our future world-traveling home. This week was also extra special because it was our kitten Shelly’s first sail. All music in this video was performed LIVE by the late Island Treasure, Edward Palmer. Ed of Beaver Island used his musical gifts to heal, entertain and celebrate many generations of Islanders. And in his later years, he enjoyed playing music for the elderly at assisted living facilities all over Northern Michigan. While he played harmonica and guitar beautifully, he mastered at the piano. Edward enjoyed Beaver Island history and genealogy. He also loved to travel and to meet new people. He was everyone's friend. He enjoyed making others happy through everyday small gestures of kindness. J'avoue que nous sommes tombées amoureuses de ce gros matou gentil et attachant. Pour la petite histoire, Le Matou Revient est une chanson traditionnelle américaine (qui date de 1893), reprise avec des paroles en français par Steve Waring dans les années 1970-1975. J'adorais ce disque et j'ai même vu un concert de Steve Waring à la fête de l'huma ! Je devais avoir 10 ans, je m'en souviens comme si c'était hier. Autre époque ! J'espère que ma version fait-maison, un peu plus jazzy que l'originale, vous plaira.

Just 14 hours after crossing the line on the Round Ireland Race, Dazcat 1495 'Hissy Fit' is off cruising with family and friends. Hissy Fit completed the somewhat gruelling 700++ mile offshore in 5th position over the line out of 48 starters, and 2nd in the MOCRA under 50ft class...This video is about Hissy Fit's superb cruising after the race. But just stop and consider for a moment: Hissy Fit, Simon and his friend Dan all needed to be spotlessly presentable, as fresh as possible and in full working order for the arrival of Tracey and Claire to start the cruise. They also had to celebrate with the rest of the crew before they departed. Hissy Fit's durability (no breakages during the race), ease of cleaning and low maintenance are the only things that make this possible. It's just one aspect of the Dazcat magic that you only understand if you understand - we prefer to spend more time sailing and less time fixing and cleaning our boats. Simon, director at the Multihull Centre and build oversight of Dazcats, sails his boat to test, prove and develop the design and build. He also happens to love winning races. But he and his wife Tracey also love exploring the beautiful coastlines and harbours within easy sailing reach of home and with all the home comforts on board. It's been a particularly wet and unpredictable summer but still they managed to find some gorgeous sunshine and stunning sights on the Irish southern coast and the beautiful Isles of Scilly, visiting 12 different harbours and anchorages. Wildlife, scenery and a few tips to remember both on the water and ashore.
