Does our boat do well drying out at low tide? We'll pretty much find out!! We chose the spot we anchored in because we knew we could get in with a shallow draft, but what we were not expecting was for the tide to fall so low that we'd be sitting in 2 feet of water! But, since we had the opportunity, we used that time to inspect our bottom paint we applied last spring to see how it's held up over the past year without a single cleaning. Using the beautiful sunny day we had, we took the dinghy, as well as Georgie, over to the neighboring island of St. Martin to enjoy their white sand beaches. Looking around, it was hard to tell we were sitting in a corner of England. It looked way too Caribbean to be so far north! Lastly, we went to the posh island of Tresco to spend a few days. Beautiful hikes awaited us, and a secret little lookout over the sound and all the boats anchored there. Definitely an island group that is a little slice of paradise and we were pretty sure we could spend months there exploring it. We hope you enjoy! Much love from the Isles of Scilly! The sail is that exquisite beam reach sailing all sailors dream of and the dreaded pass is a piece of cake thanks to another yacht passing through before us and being our guinea pig… If only the captain would bloody concentrate! Jackson is very distracted and has eyes on everything but our course. We make it into the anchorage and it’s just the two of us, which is nice. This place turns out to be a complete treasure trove. There is no ciguatera poisoning on the reef so spearfishing almost anything is fair game, freediving is off it’s head and Jackson & Dave score the best waves they’ve ever surfed in their lives. RAN and we sail to Antigua and lay anchor in Freeman Bay, English Harbour. This is the place to go to if you want to see a lot of superyachts! We couldn't help ourselves to daydream about which boat we would like to have. So many beautiful yachts! But English Harbour is not only a place for superyachts, it's also a world heritage site with Nelson's dockyard. Beside from walking around in the historical dockyard, we watch the SUP-paddler Chris Bertish make landfall after 93 days at sea crossing the Atlantic! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. I help out some Gunas with some fuel and they reward me with some fruit, 2 bread fruit a bunch of bananas and some lemons. I have never had bread fruit so I am eager to try it and so are my friends the bees. We test out the Rocna in weed and it is surprising, it fails first go so I talk a bit about that and I also look at how much fish is wasted when we fillet them and throw away the carcass. She comes completely rigged for wetting a line right down to the fishfinder and trolling motor. Her relatively high freeboard translates to a deep cockpit to keep the kids more secure. The result is a relatively inexpensive boat that has lots of utility. We tested her with a 150-hp Mercury 4-stroke and reached a top speed of 45.5 mph.
