We have a deadline to get to Crete and have no option but to sail through this storm. Our safety gear is all out and explained and we also manage to fix some major rig issues. Crete is a stunning island with beautiful food and wine (something many of the Greek islands in our opinion are lacking). Enjoy the journey and adventure with us! and We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.

In this sailing vlog, we take you behind the scenes of what it really takes to prepare a boat for an ocean passage across the Indian Ocean. Before departure, we explored local markets and some very unusual shopping spots while provisioning the boat. Along the way, we discovered fascinating and sometimes surprising local habits that made the experience even more memorable. Just when we thought we were ready to go, a last-minute decision to inspect the propeller revealed a serious problem — a thick rope tightly wrapped around it. Luckily we caught it before leaving the harbour. Once underway on our passage to the Maldives, the trip quickly turned challenging. Strange noises started coming from the steering mechanism and we began experiencing steering problems. To stay safe, we ended up hand-steering the rest of the journey across the ocean — a real test of endurance and teamwork at sea. After the long passage, arriving in the Maldives felt incredible. Our agent met us at the boat along with officials from the different authorities to complete the formal arrival procedures — a unique part of entering this beautiful island nation by yacht. Join us for the full story of preparation, unexpected problems, and the rewarding arrival after an unforgettable offshore passage. There is some bad weather coming in and we seek shelter in Finnøya. After the gail passes we sail on to Ålesund and visit the Swedish consulate to do or duty and place our votes for the Swedish parliament. We go around the famous Stad Peninsula, through which the Norwegians are building a ship tunnel! We end up at Silda Island and make ourselves ready to cross the North Sea to Scotland and Inverness. Electric boats are no longer some far-off future idea — they’re here, and my new Island Spirit 525e is a perfect example. With a 210 kWh battery bank, two 65 kW electric motors, and around 80 nautical miles of electric range at 6 knots, this is a serious electric propulsion system. In this episode, I talk about the safety side of modern electric boats: lithium batteries, battery monitoring, cooling systems, electric propulsion, installation quality, and why today’s systems are much safer than they were just a few years ago. I also get into one of the biggest fears on any modern sailboat: lightning. A lightning strike can cause massive damage, destroy electronics, and create electrical gremlins that last for years. That’s why I installed the CMCE Sertec lightning prevention system on my boat. I explain how it works, why I think lightning protection is essential on a modern electric catamaran, and why protecting all these electronics and batteries matters more than ever. We’ll also talk about maintenance, reliability, generator backup, energy management, and what life is really like with a modern lithium and electric propulsion system onboard. Topics in this episode: Lithium battery safety on boats Electric propulsion systems Battery monitoring and cooling Lightning protection CMCE Sertec system Generator backup Marine electronics Electric sailing catamarans Island Spirit 525e Modern boat reliability Big takeaway: electric boats are not scary when they’re done right — what’s scary is powerful technology installed casually. And f you are looking for the Sertec lightning prevention system in Asia contact Electrical Marine https://electrical-marine.com/ Otherwise, check out their website: https://marine.sertec.com.py/en/

Hi Everyone, This is part 2 of our California Coast trip from San Francisco to Las Angeles. We had some excitement and beautiful scenery. We really enjoyed the coast but we didn't have the wind we expected. Until the dreaded "Point Conception" which finally delivered some much needed air. Please enjoy the video. We break down all of the things we love about our catamaran, Gemini 105MC, and all of the things we wish we knew when we were buying our catamaran that may have kept us from wanting to sell our boat. These are some key things to think about when you are searching to buy your own sailboat. We love our sailboat but wish we would have taken the plunge and future proofed our sailing options. Now that we have decided to sail full-time we wish we had a more capable Bluewater sailboat. I would still go multihull over monohull but I see the pros and cons! Let us know what you think in the comments.
