In this episode of our liveaboard sailing adventure, we leave Great Keppel Island and make our way to Rosslyn Bay Marina, looking for a safe place to wait out the weather. Sailing the Queensland coast means constantly watching the wind, swell and forecast, and sometimes the best sailing decision is knowing when to get off the water. Once safely inside the marina, however, our problems aren’t over. We start experiencing issues with our boat batteries, inverter and electrical system, leaving us trying to work out what has gone wrong. After troubleshooting the problem, we discover that our inverter needs to be replaced — another unexpected expense and another reminder that living aboard a sailboat means constantly maintaining and repairing your home. This is real-life liveaboard sailing: beautiful anchorages, changing weather, passage planning, boat maintenance, unexpected repairs and the challenges that come with travelling the world by sailboat. Sometimes the weather decides how long you stay — and in Arctic Norway, that can turn a sailing stop into something much more interesting. In this episode, we leave the tiny island community of Myken and sail towards the remote Træna archipelago, just north of the Arctic Circle. What begins as a short passage soon becomes an extended stay as rough seas and strong winds build between us and our next destination. Our final days on Myken don’t quite go to plan. Much of the footage we filmed there was accidentally lost, but we still get to share a glimpse of this remarkable island: a community of only 13 permanent residents, an extraordinarily well-stocked grocery shop, and a distillery created after two fellow sailors were stranded here by bad weather. From Myken, we make the roughly 20-nautical-mile passage to Træna in beautiful conditions, crossing remarkably shallow, clear water before carefully making our way into the harbour. With deteriorating weather approaching, Træna becomes our home for longer than expected — and gives us plenty of time to discover what lies beyond the harbour. We explore the islands by bike and on foot, visit the historic wooden Træna Church, and discover the extraordinary story of Theodore and Alma: a brother and sister separated by thousands of miles between Norway and Hawaii, connected through letters, a Kodak camera and photographs that eventually became an invaluable record of island life. We also visit the Petter Dass Chapel before taking an early ferry to another island for one of the strangest hikes we’ve encountered so far — straight through a dark tunnel inside the mountain. On the other side we find dramatic coastal scenery, an unusual public shelter overlooking an anchorage and Kirkhelleren, a huge cave where evidence shows people were gathering thousands of years ago. Meanwhile, the weather offshore isn’t improving. With significant wave heights around 2.5–3 metres and maximum waves forecast even higher, we decide there is little reason to force the next passage. Instead, we stay in Træna, watch the forecasts and wait for the sea to settle. Sometimes cruising isn’t about getting somewhere. Mit meiner OFFLINE segle ich von Mallorca über Ibiza zurück an die spanische Küste – und schließlich in meinen Heimathafen Torrevieja. Vier Monate voller Abenteuer liegen hinter mir. Neue Orte, neue Eindrücke, schöne Segeltage – aber auch die Erkenntnis, dass man sich irgendwann wieder nach dem eigenen Hafen sehnt. Und trotzdem ist da schon wieder diese andere Sehnsucht: die nach dem nächsten Abenteuer und dem nächsten Törn. Is this the prettiest Fairline ever built? 😍🤩🛥️. In this first full review of the brand new 2027 Fairline Targa 58 GTO, we take you through absolutely everything; from the spectacular beach club and huge cockpit to the beautifully finished interior, accommodation and that wonderfully clean new helm. There’s plenty to explore on board, including the drop-down balconies, garage and beach club arrangement, enormous cockpit table, outdoor galley, three-cabin layout and some seriously impressive detailing throughout. We also head forward to look at the wider side decks, bow seating and one-piece windscreen, before climbing into the engine bay to see the twin Volvo Penta D13 1000s. Then it’s time to leave the marina and take the Targa 58 GTO out onto Southampton Water for a quick sea trial. We see how those shaft-drive D13s perform, talk through the handling and helm layout, and find out what sort of speed she can achieve.
