This video shows our trip from San Diego up to San Francisco, stopping at Catalina, Marina Del Rey, Santa Cruz Island, and Santa Barbara along the way. This video was cobbled together from a number of shots we primarily took for instagram and just to capture the moment, which is why the screen ratio is off, with black bars on the screen. I'm looking forward to making the next video, which we more specifically shot for purposes of YouTube, and includes some really great down-wind footage of our latest trip to Southern California.

Dorade, a 52 foot yawl built in 1929, raced from Newport to Bermuda in 2012, 80 years after her winning this classic bluewater race. On fall days, the wind blows out of the east in San Francisco, bringing with it smells of Fall foliage, fireplaces, and a dry chill in the air. It's on days like that we enjoy sailing in what feels like a whole new place. We get to go up-wind towards Berkeley, and fly spinnakers towards the gate. Not only that, but with the king tides, we see currents rushing huge logs downstream and out the gate, to the point where we're on constant lookout for pilings, sheets of plywood (yes, we've seen that), and rebar (a running joke at my expense, but I swear it looked like rebar at first glance!).

I set out to capture something special — the summer solstice sunrise at Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. Staying overnight in the National Trust car park, I didn’t expect to share it with paddleboarders arriving at 3am, ready to see the sunrise from the calm sea. By the time I walked the mile to the cliffs, more paddleboarders and a few fellow photographers had gathered — all of us waiting for the first light.
