I’m sailing from Almere toward Lemmer in The Netherlands – the town where my love for sailing started when I was just ten years old. Now I’m back with my 27ft Grinde Loveworkx, ready for the next big chapter: my solo circumnavigation. I moor at Zeilmakerij De Vries Maritiem, the same place where I once worked at the reception desk. Today they’re making a brand new sprayhood, a rain-catching cover for the tropics, a dinghy cover, and even a cockpit hammock for better watch-keeping. Watch the whole process: measuring, bending frames, cutting fabric and the final result. It feels incredibly special to return to the place where it all began while preparing my boat for the big oceans ahead. So what does a day actually look like living alone on a boat in Southeast Asia? Well… a lot happens. 😅 Today I’m: ⛽️ Filling our water tanks and running the engine 💧 Filtering marina water so nothing nasty grows in our tanks 🧽 Cleaning and UV-protecting all our clears (Malaysia’s sun is no joke) 🚪 Fixing the bathroom door after our holding tank exploded (yes… exploded) ❄️ Defrosting our freezer for the millionth time 🛠️ Attempting multiple DIY repairs with Shelly as my “assistant” ☕️ Making coffee on our new espresso machine 💨 Cleaning dusty fans, polishing surfaces, and keeping our tiny home livable 🌧 Enjoying the rain at the end of monsoon season 🎥 And ending the night at the Langkawi night market with friends Boat life isn’t glamorous — it’s real, messy, nonstop work… But every day I get better, stronger, and a little more proud of the life we’re building. In our feature on The Ocean Race Europe Leg 3-4 we asked why Paul Meilhat's Biotherm has been so difficult to beat in this complex, multi-stage marathon. Offshore expert and project manager Marcus Hutchinson gave us an insight into the ingredients that have made this boat and its team so dominant in this race.
