New engine update on my 1998 Island Packet 320. ⛵ They’re coming back for the final setup, fluids, coolant, oil, and hopefully the first start. This install has taken a long time because there have been so many modifications — water pump setup, Balmar alternator mount, throttle cables, pulleys, and all four engine mounts so the shaft and coupler can be lined up correctly. It’s been slow, but I’d rather it be done right. I’ve been filming the whole process in time lapse, and I’ll have a camera in the engine room for the first start. The 34-metre Baltic 111 Raven has rewritten the limits of monohull offshore performance, taking Monohull Line Honours, winning the IMA Transatlantic Trophy, and setting a new monohull race record in the 2026 RORC Transatlantic Race from Lanzarote to Antigua. Skippered by Damien Durchon, Raven crossed the finish line off English Harbour, Antigua, on Sunday 18 January, completing the 3,000-nautical-mile Atlantic crossing in just under seven days — an extraordinary achievement. Light for her length, foil-assisted and engineered to sustain very high average speeds for days at a time, Raven represents a new chapter in offshore maxi yacht design. Raven was welcomed into Falmouth Harbour by The Hon. Charles ‘Max’ Fernandez, Minister of Tourism & Economic Development, who congratulated the crew and presented the IMA Transatlantic Trophy as the first maxi yacht to finish the race. Fernandez highlighted Antigua’s role as the new finish destination for the RORC Transatlantic Race, underlining the island’s appeal to elite offshore racing yachts and international crews. A new benchmark for monohulls For navigator Will Oxley, who also navigated Comanche to the monohull race record in the 2022 RORC Transatlantic Race to Grenada, the comparison between the two boats highlights just how radical Raven is. Raven’s performance not only secures Monohull Line Honours and the IMA Trophy, but also establishes her as a leading contender for the overall IRC corrected-time result, with few boats capable of matching her blend of speed, stability and consistency. Raven has set the benchmark IRC corrected time to beat, though the next boat likely to finish is the Mach 50 Palanad 4. The scow-bow canting-keeler is well positioned to challenge for the overall lead under IRC. “This was the first transatlantic race for the boat and the owner,” said Durchon. “To set a record in your first attempt is something very special.” As Raven came to rest in Antigua, one thing was clear. The Rio-Antirrio Bridge is one of the world’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges. • It connects the Peloponnese peninsula (Rio) with mainland Greece (Antirrio), near the city of Patras. • Officially opened in August 2004, just before the Athens Olympic Games. • Named after Charilaos Trikoupis, a 19th-century Greek Prime Minister who first proposed the idea • The bridge is about 2,880 meters (1.8 miles) long. • Built in a seismically active region, over deep water with unstable seabed — making it a major engineering challenge. • Special techniques were used to make the structure earthquake- and tsunami-resistant, including floating foundation platforms and flexible pylons.

One of my major goals this year was to eventually sail to Kefalonia in Greece so that I could propose to Abril properly in one of our favourite places, Asos. But before we could get there, we had to go through all the necessary arriving procedures in the island's capital, Argostoli (another beautiful town). There was a moment when it looked like we wouldn't have enough time for Asos, but we got there in the end! We finally ended up in Nydri, Lefkada, where we'd be meeting a couple of friends. We were luck enough to be present for Greece's Ohi day celebrations, we had some great sailing, and almost adopted (or kidnapped!) a little cat!
