Could you really live on a sailboat for just $20,000? In this episode, we’re building the perfect budget cruiser — the legendary Catalina 30 — and transforming it into a self-sufficient liveaboard for under twenty grand. We’re adding 800 watts of solar power, a 300 amp-hour lithium battery, fixing all the classic Catalina leaks, and finding used sails that still have plenty of miles left in them. It’s the affordable dream setup that proves you don’t need a million dollars to live on the water — just a bit of passion and a lot of butyl tape. Join me as I break down what to buy, what to fix first, and how to make a classic Catalina 30 into the perfect off-grid tiny home on the sea. The mission here at Lady K Sailing has always been to get more people sailing, more easily — and I couldn’t do it without the patrons who make these videos possible. Catalina 30, budget sailboat, liveaboard sailboat, cheap sailboat, $20,000 sailboat, sailing lifestyle, solar sailboat, lithium battery boat, Catalina 30 refit, liveaboard on a budget, sailing on a budget, best cheap sailboats, sailboat restoration, affordable cruising, sailboat living, off grid sailboat, tiny home sailboat, cruising sailboat, used sailboat refit, Lady K Sailing Until next time friends — keep the heavy side down (but not too far down).

► With its hull directly inspired by a racing boat designed and built by Canados, the Heritage 36 is unsurprisingly very fast and seaworthy. Its sleek hulls with stepped chines cut through the surface while the tunnel under the nacelle provides full lift and absorbs any slamming, enabling this powercat to reach 50 knots with “only” two 300 HP motors. ► The helm station is slightly offset to port but is perfectly positioned and benefits from Garmin EmpirBus technology. During our test (to be published soon in Multihulls World) on the Intracoastal Waterway of Fort Lauderdale, our reporter Brieuc Maisonneuve noted "excellent seakeeping and controlled fuel consumption". ► However, the most original feature of this powercat is undoubtedly the double housings at the stern, which completely hide the outboard motors. A small central sugarscoop is of course provided. On board, there is a sleek deck layout with a central passageway leading to a forward cockpit and even a comfortable cabin. "The Heritage 36 thus combines performance, comfort and great ease of use, making it an ideal platform for sporting outings or day cruises in varied conditions," concludes Brieuc. ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Canados Catamarans Length: 34’7” (10.55 m) Beam: 12’8” (3.85 m) Displacement: 12,125 lbs (5.5 t) Draft: 16/30” (0.4/0.77 m) Outboards: 2 x 250/300 HP Fuel: 237 US gal (900 l) Max speed: 40/50 knots ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Let's go on a journey together and discover the world of Explorer Yachts. Ultra long range, reliability, strength and independence are all very good characteristics for a yacht if you're cruising Australia and New Zealand. Vasco and his team at Cantiere Delle Marche based in Ancona, Italy hosted me and the the Australian dealers for an amazing tour and discovery of the world of steel explorer yachts that he and his team have been creating. In a little over a decade they have risen to be one of the top shipyards in the world. I plan on following the journey of a number of yachts they have in build and bringing the story to you here on the channel as I firmly believe this is a category of yacht that makes a LOT of sense for the Southern Hemisphere. Enjoy, Dan Jones

Jury Chair Andre Hoek presented the world-renowned DAME Design Award 2022 to the Ocean Signal RescueME PLB3 AIS Personal Locator Beacon at the METSTRADE Breakfast Briefing on Tuesday 15th November 2022. The headline news of the compact PLB3 is its combination of an AIS man overboard device and GPS with a Cospas-Sarsat personal locator beacon, Galileo Return Link Service and incorporation of visible and infrared signal lights. In a rescue situation speed is always of the essence and this unit provides the very best chance for survival through this blend of long- and short-range detection technologies. The design detail goes even further though, in accompanying features like the well-illustrated instruction manual and in a Near Field Communication app that enables you to test the PLB3 using your mobile telephone. Ocean Signal's Mikele D’Arcangelo runs through the details of the device soon after news of the win.

DAY 3 — and the emotional weather might be stronger than the Gulf of Alaska. Today we sat down in the wheelhouse to give you a real update… and things got real real. Between Scott wiring up Autopilot 2.0 (and now 3.0), the new Simrad radar system, a wheelhouse full of black boxes and broken wires, and Audrey trying to figure out if Christmas in Prince William Sound is actually possible… let’s just say the “18 Day Challenge” is officially in plot-twist territory. Are we making it north? Is Plan A still Plan A? Did Plan B just become the favorite?? …And why do we accidentally keep talking when the camera is “off”? 😅 This video includes: • Raw honesty about the crossing • Real conversations about safety, timing, weather, and family • The hilarious tension of two people who REALLY want the same thing… but not in the same way • Updates on the new navigation system, radar, and autopilot • Big questions about winter storms, kids, Christmas, and timelines • A growing mountain of boat projects • And YOU GUYS voting in the comments on which plan makes sense This is boat life. Not curated. Not polished. Just two humans trying to pull off something big with an 80ft steel motor sailor, five kids, winter weather, and a deadline that’s coming fast. Stick around. Things are getting interesting. 📍 CHAPTERS 00:00 Welcome to Day 3 — Wheelhouse chaos 00:39 The beard, the boat, and the tension 01:20 Autopilot 2.0 & the new Simrad system 02:30 Radar upgrades + Dave’s Welding shoutout 03:40 Autopilot 3.0 arrives 04:15 Talking about crossing the Gulf in December 05:20 Audrey’s love for Prince William Sound 06:40 Did we tell EVERYONE the plan already? 07:30 Realizing the timeline might be impossible 09:00 Emotional updates + nervous system truths 10:30 What’s more important: the crossing or Christmas with kids? 12:20 Safety, weather windows, and the growing list 13:40 Is Plan B actually… better? 15:00 Forecasting, miracles, and the 18-day pressure 17:00 Plan A vs Plan B — which one even is which? 20:00 The emotional storm intensifies 22:00 Boat life vs boat stress 24:00 Why the heart wants certainty 26:00 Could the universe still open the window? 27:00 Supporting each other through the stress 28:30 Reading your comments + kid updates 29:40 Wrapping up — and what we still don’t know
