Building a laminated wooden boat transom using a marine plywood core and solid mahogany veneers for maximum strength, stability, and a beautiful bright finish. In this Short from Nomad Boat Building, Mark Reuten shows how combining traditional wooden boat aesthetics with modern epoxy lamination creates a transom that’s durable, repairable, and built to last for decades. Using West System Epoxy, the mahogany veneers are bonded to both sides of the plywood core, then capped with solid wood so no plywood is exposed. This method gives you the stability of plywood and the refinishable surface of solid wood — the best of both worlds in wooden boat construction. #BoatBuilding #WoodenBoat #BoatBuilder #Epoxy #WestSystem #Mahogany #DIYBoat #MarineEpoxy #Woodworking #BoatRestoration My website: https://www.nomadboatbuilding.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nomadboatbuilding/ It's not about the money but living isn't free... Enjoy this video of our winter maintenance programme of the fleets in the Saronic Gulf, Kefalonia and the Cyclades. This is just a snapshot and the team are hard at work the moment getting ready for the first flotilla on the 15th April. In more detail our maintenance programme is comprehensive from careful servicing of engines, transmissions, and outboards along with items like the steering systems, winches and electric windlass, to servicing the toilets and plumbing systems. We also check that all the electronics and instruments are working correctly. All the sails are carefully evaluated by our specialist partners at Quantum Sails and either replaced or serviced. The rigging is also checked by a specialist. It's comprehensive from treating and protecting the keels, right the way to checking the lights, sensors and aerial on the masthead. Just when we thought our outboard woes were behind us… it breaks again in the wind and rain, no less! With the engine out of action, Matt rows ashore like a hero, gets it going temporarily, but it doesn’t last long. Thankfully, our friends come to the rescue, picking up a new 4hp outboard for us in Inverness. Big upgrade and a lot more weight for me (Paige) to wrangle aboard! We sail to Salen, meet our friends, and collect the new engine all after a fantastic sail in true Scottish style. From Salen, we set off for Loch Drambuie, enjoying another beautiful passage, navigating through a narrow gap past Broad Rock. To top it all off, Matt forages some winkles from the beach to cook for dinner. Not a bad way to end a day at sea. ⛵ Highlights: Outboard fails again in wind & rain Matt rows ashore & attempts a repair We upgrade to a 4hp engine (goodbye, 2.0!) Fantastic sailing to and from Salen & Loch Drambuie Navigating narrow gaps and rocky channels Beach foraging for wild winkles Another real slice of sailing life — a bit of hassle, plenty of beauty, and a few laughs in between. Come along for the ride!

“The life of a seafarer is not just a job… it’s a journey of pain, pride, and perseverance. Far from home, working in storms, missing family moments, counting days till sign-off — yet we continue with courage. This reel captures the raw reality of seafarers: the hardships, the challenges, the loneliness, and the strength that keeps us going. To every brother sailing across the world… stay strong. 💙⚓ You are not alone.” #lifeatsea #sailorlife #sailor #cargoship #emotional
