Il territorio è nella maggior parte, pianeggiante, dominato dal Monte S. Caterina, (310 mt.) La costa si alterna, rocce e sabbia fine di colore bianco; e ovviamente un meraviglioso mare trasparente, ottimo per fare delle crociere in barca a vela, anche a noleggio; numerosi yacht sono prsenti nelle acque dell'isola in tutte le stagioni dell'anno. Favignana è la più grande dell'arcipelago delle Egadi. Il terreno utilizzato fin dai tempi dei Romani, ha reso possibile l'estrazione del tufo, con il quale sono state costruite le abitazioni in Sicilia e del Nord Africa. Le piante spontanee, ancora oggi costituiscono la macchia mediterranea, tipica del luogo, alcune delle quali si prestano per deliziose ricette dell'enogastronomia tipica. Molte sono le presenze di conigli selvatici, esemplari d uccelli, circondano l'isola, il grifone il pellicano, il fenicottero, il biancone, il cormorano, il gruccione. Favignana è caratterizzatala da un clima mediterraneo, il quale influisce anche nel benessere della persona offrendo temperature miti tutto l'anno. La stagione estiva, si prolunga dal mese di Maggio fino a quello di Ottobre. L'autunno e la primavera sono molto brevi e le perturbazioni fanno capolino solo nella stagione invernale. E' fondamentale un mezzo di trasporto con il quale affrontare le strade che si alternano ad asfalto e terra battuta, numerosi i posti a cui rivolgersi per noleggiare, biciclette, scooters, auto e fuoristrada. Le distanze dagli aeroporti di Trapani e Palermo sono minime, facilitando il trasferimento sull'isola, per una vacanza piena di mare e natura. Im Rahmen der SKS-Ausbildung oder als Bestandteil des dreitägigen Skippertrainings führen wir beispielhaft eine Nachtfahrt durch. Der Törn von Burgstaaken nach Heiligenhafen wird mit der Crew so geplant, vorbereitet und durchgeführt, als würden wir eine komplette Nacht durchfahren. Die Navigation in den unterschiedlichen Fahrwassern verlangt den Teilnehmern tatsächlich einiges ab. Die noch unerfahrene Crew war jedenfalls ganz froh, dass wir nicht auch noch Segel setzen oder reffen mussten.
