Jimmie Lowe hails from the Bahamas where the wind blows across the turquoise water. The Bahmas host the last leg of the Snipe Winter Circuit that begins in Clearwater, travels to Miami for the Don Q and ends in Nassau. Jimmie and his wife Lori have traveled around the world sailing Snipes. They always look at the next regatta as an opportunity to catch up with other members of the Snipe family. And just like any family, they take a lot of pride is seeing just how well the current crop of Jr. Snipers are doing -- Nick Voss from Florida finished 8th in the Snipe Worlds in San Diego. The bottom line is that for Jimmie, the Snipe Class lives up to its motto: Serious Sailing, Serious Fun.

Bibi Juetz has been sailing Snipes for 60 years, both in her home country of Brazil and around the world. At 75, she's just finished competing in the Snipe Master's World Championship in Trieste. She's placed second overall to Augie Diaz in the past three championship series while winning the Grand Master Championship (for those skippers over 65) each time. She's always available to help out her fellow Snipe sailors. Last year for the Western Hemisphere's Championship she drove one of the boats from Brasil to Punte del Este, Uruguay for a Sniper who could not take time off to drive the boat down. It was a good thing she did as he finished 2nd for the regatta. Her vision of picking crew is finding someone young and getting them to the regatta. Its amazing how many of the best Brazilian crews have sailed with her over the years.

Pedro Garra is Commodore for the Snipe Class International Racing Association. He sailed at the World Championship in San Diego this September representing his home country of Uruguay. He comes with strong Snipe credentials as his father won a Bronze medal in Snipes at the PanAm Games. Pedro represents the best type of Commodore, one who comes to the job as a top sailor and one who sees his role as making sure that the Class stays strong for all those who sail the boat. He joins a long list of SCIRA Commodores who have managed to keep this 78 year old class a powerhouse in international dinghy competitions. He talks about the culture of sportsmanship that permeates the class and makes the intense competition on the water a more civil battle among friends. Another manifestation of that is how the top sailors in the class are always available to help others with rig tuning, tactics or boat handling advice.
Nick Voss is still in college but he's been moving up the ladder in the Snipe Class at a fast pace. He finished in 4th place at the Snipe Junior Worlds in San Diego. As one of only two Jr. skippers to qualify for the Snipe Sr. Worlds, Nick and his crew, John Frettwell, roared out to place 8th in the competition. They were the second highest placing US boat after Ernesto Rodriguez/Megan Place who finished 3rd overall. Nick's got quite a bit to say about why collegiate sailors should think about a Snipe when they graduate -- both the price of getting and campaigning a boat and the quality of the racing that's available make the Snipe a compelling choice. Of course Nick comes from a strong Snipe background and has stories about how as a really young Sniper he would sometimes sleep through races in the bottom of the boat.
George Szabo sails Snipes because the Class knows how to have fun both on and off the water. As an international Class it attracts some of the best small boat sailors both in the US and from around the world. An integral component is the fun that comes from the family atmosphere of the regattas - the parties are legendary. George came to the 2009 Snipe Worlds in San Diego fresh from his victory in the Star Worlds. He tells us what it takes to win a World Championship. He also talks about how the Snipe is a boat that can be sailed by big sailors, and not so big sailors and how a loft like Quantum helps make that possible. He also shares his excitement about crewing for 10 year old Cameron Biehl in the unique US Jr./Sr. Championship a few years ago.
Brian Bissell graduated from college as a two time all american sailor and gravitated to the Snipe Class as part of his work with North Sails One Design. He's stayed with the Class because of the high level of competition that's possible. Brian's been to the Worlds in Portugal and San Diego and the Western Hemispheres in Uruguay since joining the class five years ago. Brian talks about why collegiate sailors should think about the Snipe as their boat of choice. Even though the boat has lots of tuning adjustments, its possible to go out and be competitive with just a little help from other Snipers. Greg Fisher gave him three basic rig tunes and sent him out on the course.
