I got out on the water today, the results were not as I had hoped for.

In this episode the Crew from the S/V DreamChaser head down to New Orleans for a Cemetery tour. It was really cool and with a couple of the broken tombs, I was able to get some video and photos inside the concrete structures. I was shocked when I came back home and looked at those images on the computer and was able to zoom in. You can clearly see bones, (Backbones, Leg Bones, etc) In Celebration of St. Patty’s day, I figured I would translate this into Irish for this weeks episode :) Top O’ the Morning to you. !!!! So I have decided to track my progress with the RC yacht ! , this is day 2 in higher winds , it sails lovely and i realized if i let the sail out fully just before i turn with the wind it flips the boat around and i can tighten it and sail away tacking again really enjoying this boat , although the wind picked up even more and it refused to turn in high winds otherwise its great

* Now Sold * Launched in 1997, Kakadu is an Ulf Rogeburg designed 45 Steel Cutter Rigged Sloop designed for world cruising. Kakadu represents a go anywhere vessel, incredibly well spec’d, very well maintained and what sets her apart from other blue water options is her ease of operation and comfort above and below decks. Her hull was sandblasted in 2012, re-faired and new epoxy coatings applied. The topsides and deck were re-painted in 2014. Standing rigging replaced 2014 while the mast was also re-painted and re-furbished. The steering system is the enviable Whitlock Cobra rack and pinion direct drive – no wires. Mainsail, Genoa, Spinnaker – all updated new in 2011. There is a separate trysail track fitted to the mast. Water maker, generator, ducted diesel heating, solar panels, wind generator, dinghy with two outboards, folding propeller and an extensive safety package – all on board. Tankage is certainly fit for purpose with 1000L water and 1200L diesel. Accommodation down below is beautifully finished in Tasmanian Ash and was re-varnished in 2011. A navigation station to starboard would shame many larger vessels. A generous galley sits to port. The large saloon features a stunning hi gloss table with folding leaves. The generous space forward offers a dedicated work room with vice, the enclosed head and shower with electric head and holding tank and the large V berth which currently is utilised for storage. Rarely do we see a vessel of this calibre so well presented and professionally updated where it matters most. Based in Hopetown the iconic Rage is the symbol of sailing in the Abacos and is a Class A Bahamian sloop. In its heyday it raced all over Bahamas but Rage has now retired and stays in the Abacos 28ft long, it was built on Man O War Cay in 1980, has a 62ft mast and incredible 38ft long boom. The mainsheet blocks line up with the transom, despite appearances it doesn't have a centre mainsheet! I was lucky enough to be invited out for a race last week. Fortunately we had a hot day with bright sun, and ideal winds of 5-10 knots. There were fifteen on board - four to sail the boat, the rest of us were moveable ballast. For there are three sliding seats, or prys, which each hold up to three crew. Rage sails best with the gunwale just on the water. It's hard enough to keep it balanced sailing to windward, but becomes really tricky when running. One person moving from side to side was enough to roll the boat from boom under water (real slow!) to boom high (also slow) Because the boom is so long, gybing is a nightmare in any wind, it calls for careful planning and a lot of co-ordination, especially with 15 on board and, as you can see, a very low boom. After a gybe the weight of boom combined with its length has huge momentum and the boat would really rock and roll so the crew had to move carefully to balance it out and reduce the roll. Just as one would in a dinghy, but on a huge scale. Rage is fast offwind, and hangs in there to windward in light winds. 10 knots wind is the maximum for optimum performance, any more than that and it falls over and the resulting strong weather helm kills any speed. All in all it was a great day out, with much laughter and a fair bit of drinking. Oh, and we won the race!

We sail into the Indian port of Port Blair and prepare to check in. The process is the craziest we've ever seen with heaps of Indian Officials visiting Delos from Customs, Immigration, and the Indian Navy. Customs decided to lock up our Iridium Phone but eventually we get our clearance finished. We go on a beer fueled exploration day to fill our bellies with local food and the girls shop for their new sorrees then give us a fashion show. Pretty soon it's time to set sail and we leave to explore the Andamans Islands! Footage from March, 2015.
