A big line up for today's 16' Skiff race off Manly with a tight start in light breezes albeit a general recall. Bow Caddy caught the start and the first mark from their Caddy Crows Nest.

In this video you will see how we made the decision to remove the teak from the deck of our classic 51' Formosa Sailboat. We had leaks and the teak was worn very thin, so rather than attempt to refurbish the teak decks, we opted to remove them. This was a very painful decision because I love the way the teak decks look and just got tired of having to constantly worry about the thousands of screw holes through the top layer of fiberglass as possible places where water could get in and rot the core. In this series of videos, we will document the removal of the teak, the removal and patching of screw holes, inspecting and correcting core rot and then adding a layer of fiberglass, texture, paint and non skid. This is going to be a complete deck refurbish and we will document them all. We stop at Donner Pass, a place with quite the interesting history… It was here that a group of pioneers became stranded for the winter, and was forced to resort to cannibalism, and later America’s first transcontinental highway and railroad passed through these amazing mountains. There’s some breathtaking views, but we are anxious to get back to Varuna and see how the repairs our broken bowsprit are going. We return to the boatyard to see the progress. George Town appeared in our lives after sunset hours, but we were happy to get here even standing on a bow with a flashlight :) This is pretty much the place where boaters make their final stop before a long sailing period south the Caribbean sea. Here we were able to find meat and cheese we like. I personally had a feeling as people are waiting to help other people, in our case as we are. Everywhere things are very well organized and easy to find. Just in front the George town there is a stocking island - a place to snorkel, dive, and enjoy the nature. We walked along the island to see silver top palms, had a rest on hammocks, and visited the only place over there where all people gather on weekends. We also snorkeled around and visited Mystery cave. We also reached very well protected marina in south Exumas. We had to do 11 miles on dinghy to get there from our anchorage. South Georgia Island, the place where Penguins, Elephant seals, Reindeers and Fur seals all live together and have even take over the old whaling stations. It was so amazing! In the last part of Sailing Antarctica Mini Series we enjoy the wildlife and check out the abandoned whaling stations on South Georgia Island before it's time to sail north to Brazil. We hit a storm immediately and disaster strikes! Back on La Gomera in the Canary Islands our friend from Sweden visits. Together with them we leave the marina to spend a couple of days in the anchorage in Puerto Vueltas. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. We antifoul and do repairs on Catalpa in March 2016 this was filmed on my phone and made for our family and friends to show what we had been doing. But put it up as its apart of our story :-)
