Episode 36 ** I know I said we would be painting our dodger in the next episode.. but i confused it with we will be finishing up the fibreglassing on our dodger... my bad. sorry :P So we had to re-glue our insulation foam as the foam that we had seemed to have stayed in the garage a little bit to long and wouldn't adhere to the surfaces. Once that was all done, Jerry came by and helped us get started on our dodger/bimini! We did use our existing frame for our dodger as we had already cut out poly carbonate windows for the front and didn't want that to go to waste. We won't be trailering our new boat more than 4-5 times over the lifetime of us owning her but the trailer still desperately needed some repair to make its maiden voyage. After two days at Cat Harbor relaxing, hiking and having fun, we decided it was time to pull anchor and head the 2.8 miles over to Little Harbor to stay for a few days. It was a wonderful time and we really enjoyed it. Unfortunately for a few fellow sailors that anchored too close to us, one was stuck in the shallows for a few hours until he was floating again and the other barely escaped at 2:00 a.m. when be motored forward and out of the shoal area we were in. Every year Medway Yacht Club hosts the keel boat regatta on the river Medway and we like to enter it if we can. Its spread over three days, is always really well organised, on and off the water and can be a great deal of fun. As all of you watching this in the UK will know we have had some great weather this year... just not always great for sailing and this weekend was no exception. We had plenty of sunshine and it was scorching hot it but we had very little wind. The team at MYC still managed to get four good races in though and we had a great time, finishing up second over all in IRC so got a good result as well. Crossing the Indian Ocean, Isolated in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the remoteness protects this island that belongs to Mauritius, yet is so different. Rodriguez Dancing, Rodrigues food...everything..it’s all different here. And Sailboats can tie up to the wharf free of charge and fix a sailboat. Patrick Childress feels this is one of the most yacht friendly islands in the world. When I think of Brazil, the iconic image of Rio automatically pops into my mind. And I’m pretty sure it does for you too. There’s just a certain mystique about this picturesque, exotic city nestled among breathtaking beaches and mountains that surround Guanabara bay. Anchoring Delos right in the middle of this 7-million-person city was a completely surreal experience. If you asked me 10 years ago the chances that I would find myself in Rio, let alone on a sailboat here, I probably would have said next to nothing. We spent nearly three weeks in Rio di Janeiro, and as you might imagine went on quite a few filming adventures. We also install two new portlights, go hiking in the jungle on Oahu and take part in a beautiful floating lantern ceremony at the beach.
