Ever wondered what a typical day on a two week open ocean passage is like? It varies depending on the boat, the crew and the ocean but there is definitely a couple common themes that weave their way into all of our long distance sails. Having the chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature is a highlight, as well as spending our days exactly as we'd like whether it's snoozing , reading, or fishing. And of course, we all love those days when conditions pick up a bit and allow Delos to shine with some badass sailing 😁 We had fun filming this episode from the first person point of view & hope you guys enjoy the switch up! Much love, B&B Subscribe at http://youtube.com/svdelos This is our story, a story of four souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing and travel and adventure. But it's also a story about meeting amazing people and making life long friends. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. Our experience has affected us so profoundly we want to share it, hoping that others may find inspiration to follow their dreams and do what they love. For more sailing around the World Action! I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

We have been working on sending tools down to SAILCARGO for a while now and we finally are getting to the point of actually shipping things! With everything we gathered, we had to figure out how to get it down there and not lose anything in the process... so, we built crates to keep everything together while it was shipped down to the in a container. The best part about this is that we got the crew together to help us put this all together! But even better than that was that I, Alix, got to spend my birthday doing something great for an amazing project, with a crew of people I care about. With that done and ready for the shipping container we got to get back to work, but we thought we would do something a little bit different for this video. We invited our editor extraordinaire, Ben Fundis, over to also do some shooting and get a little behind the scenes look for you all to see how we go about making the videos share with you. So, while we worked on the second to last set of oak planks, Ben got some great footage of both, work on Arabella but also work on getting footage for the videos. Something that not many people get a chance to see! We hope you enjoy this little behind the scenes and wish you all some very merry holidays coming up! Speaking of holidays, we wanted to give Ben, who has been working very hard to keep these videos coming out on time every week, a little bit of a break. So... we are going to be taking next week off and be back in two weeks with a new video for you all. Thank you so much for the support and we hope you get to enjoy some quality time with family! All the best from the Acorn to Arabella crew! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acorn to Arabella wishlist: http://www.acorntoarabella.com/acorn-to-arabella-wishlist Jamestown Distributors Referral: If you are going to shop at Jamestown Distributors, please consider using our Total Boat referral code: http://totalboat.refr.cc/steveandalixa?t=tg FOLLOW US: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acorntoarabella/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acorntoarabella Website: http://www.acorntoarabella.com

After a very nice stay on La Palma I am continuing to sail single-handed via Puerto de la Estaca on El Hierro to La Gomera. I am visiting the beautiful bay at Playa de Argaga and then the island's capital, San Sebastian. In the acceleration zones between the islands ship and crew are again subjected to a tough test, which was mastered very well, so it is becoming clear, now, that there is actually nothing standing in the way of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. We pack all our stuff up in the 4Runner and head out from Colorado, down the Mexican coast to Rio Dulce, Guatemala to get to our dream sailboat that we just bought. It's a tough go of it, though. Bee has a little meltdown about driving through Mexico, we pay a couple bribes and then finally we find ourselves driving at night, which is never a great thing in Central America. 🥬Become a Paid Subscriber and Help Us Out: https://www.thelitzenbergers.com/help-us-out 🎧Listen to our Podcast! https://www.thelitzenbergers.com/podcast-1 👍🏻Our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Litzenbergers/ 📷Our Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sailing_litzenbergers/ 🎼 Music in this episode: African Drums (Sting) by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://www.twinmusicom.org/

Oil changes are pretty straight forward, but there are some differences doing it on a boat to a car, so if it's something you're not too familiar with this may help. Remember there's lots of technical information on 'Tech Corner' the technical page of our website: http://www.sailingfairisle.com/tech-corner.html Also we have lots of technical snippets in the episodes of Sailing Fair Isle so do check out the series on you tube:

We search for the quieter side of Bali. Escaping from the pushy hawkers out to scam the hordes of tourists, to find the quiet peace of the waterfalls and rice paddies in the north, or that was what we hoped anyway. With over 17000 islands in Indonesia it is impossible to visit them all, but it would be a shame to sail past such an iconic island without stopping to find out what all the fuss is about. As we sailed north from Bali we had to navigate Florence through the hundreds of unlit fish traps that cover the sea just north of the island We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=19042899 It was Emily’s 21st birthday and things were going well. We sailed our little 14ft catamaran to Fraser Island. Things were looking up, that was until we put a hole in our boat and all we had to fix it with was 20cm of duct tape.. - A little bit about us: "The Mer & The Man is a marine conservation based project aiming to support the mission of greater worldwide ocean sanctuary and protection. Our goal is to help shed light and encourage action on current global environmental issues the ocean is facing. These environmental issues will be the core of our conservation content within our adventure blog 'The Mer And The Man’. The issues we will be covering include; Plastic Pollution, The Fossil Fuel Industry, The Health Of The Great Barrier Reef, Ending The War On Sharks, and Education and Awareness. A little bit about us… Emily is 21 and currently studying a marine and environmental science degree and is a passionate free diver and ocean conservationist. Sage is 21 and has lived on his dads boat for 10 years and has salt running through veins and a very enthusiastic way of being. When we met we decided we wanted to live on the ocean together, go on crazy adventures and raise awareness about important issues at the same time. We hope we can help our viewers connect more with nature and encourage adventure wherever you decide to go in life. If you’re enjoying our content don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE and hit the notifications bell to stay up to date with our videos. We thank you all for the love and support on our journey. A huge thank you to those who help keep our boat afloat by supporting our creative process via Patreon. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Sailing kids - No phones? “PUT THE SCREENS DOWN!” is a common cry aboard our boat. We thought that going sailing would be a chance to reduce screen time, but unfortunately even here in the paradise of west Fiji, cellular wifi is very efficient, easily accessible and very reasonably priced. (It’s cheaper and better than NZ) Part of the problem is that the boys want to keep in touch with their friends and catching up online is the 21st century way of sending a letter. Trying to keep the balance of catching up verses abuse of screen time with endless games of Fortnite is an ongoing problem. However, once forced outside into the light of day the boys find their skin doesn’t turn red and blister, instead the creative juices start to flow and they come up with games to amuse, stimulate and challenge. It also allows them to take risks that will build confidence and instil resilience that will be essential for success and happiness later in life. Music Cricket Farm – Bending spoons Summer Kennedy – Oh my my - musicbed.com Light the heat – Rest of our lives – musicbed.com Chptrs – Obvious – musicbed.com Thank you to Hayley Robertson and Ben Sarten and for additional footage. Who are we? In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill Never stop wandering, never stop wondering. #TheCruisingKiwis
