A short message at the end of this episode, we’re trying to make a plan for Cyclone season. 🌪 In this episode we leave Vava’u heading for Niutaputapu 🌋 and catch a massive Mahi-mahi We aren’t the best fishermen in the sea so we were pretty excited as we hadn’t eaten and fish for a month since leaving New Zealand 🇳🇿 If you don’t know we have a rule that we don’t allow meat into the boat unless you catch & Cook it yourself. We’re not all vegetarian so this makes for pretty desperate times haha 😂 We hope your loving the episodes If so do us a massive favor and smash the like button on YouTube 👍 -Captain Nate &; The Salty Crew of Sylfia
Since we left the dock in Canada, we kept thinking "what could we expect to break during this crossing?" and quite honestly, nothing came to mind. To our surprise, something did break, it was the only thing that broke as a result from Uma getting pooped the previous day. ↓ JOIN THE UMA NATION ↓ ▸ WHAT IS THE UMA NATION: https://www.sailinguma.com/uma-nation ▸ THE VAULT: (https://www.theumavault.com) ▸ PATREON: http://www.patreon.com/sailinguma ▸ PAYPAL: https://www.paypal.me/sailinguma ▸ STORE : http://www.sailinguma.com/store ▸ WEBSITE: http://www.sailinguma.com ▸ FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/sailinguma ▸ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/sailinguma/ ▸ MAIN CAMERA: https://amzn.to/2KRLgPA ▸ MAIN LENS: https://amzn.to/2IIvcmH ▸ B-ROLL LENS: https://amzn.to/2IH2S44 ▸ MIC: https://amzn.to/2Ls9Yr5 ▸ GO PRO: https://amzn.to/31rcnZv ▸ DRONE: https://amzn.to/33Bnukc ▸ AMAZON WISH LIST: http://a.co/16beuMa ▸ MUSIC: http://share.mscbd.fm/sailinguma (Get a 30 day free trial) ↓ FEATURED COLLABORATIONS ↓ ▸ B&G (Electronics) https://www.sailinguma.com/bandg ▸ PRECISION SAILS (Sails) https://www.sailinguma.com/precision-sails ▸ ZHIK (Foul weather gear) https://www.sailinguma.com/zhik ▸ YANGO SAT (Offshore Weather and Communications) https://www.yangosat.com ▸ CAPEHORN (Windvane) https://www.sailinguma.com/cape-horn ▸ DOMETIC (Appliances) https://www.sailinguma.com/dometic ▸ TEAM-O (Life Jackets) https://www.teamomarine.com/collections/all/products/170n-prosensor-backtow-lifejacket-and-harness (Get an extra 15% off with the Promo code : SailingUma ) ▸ EASYSEA (Folding winch handle) https://easysea.org?sca_ref=46948.6nWaqdX9NZ (For a 5% discount, use the code: UMA5 ) (For the full list of Collaborating Partners, check the bottom of our website page) http://www.sailinguma.com/
This week we finished the painting of our abandoned sailboat, it doesn't look like it was abandoned for 22 years anymore. hehe. Now, the only paint we need is the non-skid on the deck, and the bottom paint, but that's for another week. If you are new here... we are a Brazilian couple that have just bought a 44ft hot galvanized steel sailboat (Dinieper Tropic 1200) and is on the mission of bringing her back to life after 22 years abandoned on the hard. Once we are done, the plan is to sail her to our home town Florianópolis so we can finish building our land base, a Tiny Shipping Container House that we are building ourselves without any prior experience. No Food, Fix everything, Too much wind, Not enough wind, Beautiful Culture... https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, it is all about life as a liveaboard in remote Indonesia. Living on a sailboat means we need to be 100% self sufficient as we are travelling extremely remote areas of the far west islands of Indonesia where help is a very long way away. We go through the struggles of keeping Nandji in top shape, what we do to find fresh food to eat and then continue on our way sailing through the islands. We have been in the southern islands of the Mentawai archipelago for the last couple of months and it is time to make our way back north en route to Thailand. We enter into the stunning Telos Islands after being away from any kind of developed civilisation for weeks, hopefully here we can replenish our cupboards as they are very empty. We take Flubber the tender on our longest mission yet to visit the local village in search of food! We head back to sea only to be confronted at night by a bigger vessel charging straight at us. We are on edge as this is the closest and scariest call we have had on the sea... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we are returning to Thailand in the coming months and then taking the northern route of the Indian Ocean to the Andaman islands and onto Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trades begin again! The adventure is just beginning! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! We are really enjoying this life and sharing everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
After a pretty hectic weekend in Mykonos, we return to the boat and set sail, heading towards Poseidon's Temple with our new crew members, Fadia and Adam. As per usual in the Mediterranean we have another hot morning, the only thing that was missing was a nice cup of coffee. That's when everything went wrong... we ran out of gas. Literally the worse job for the morning but Alf gets to it and changes the gas bottle and we head on our way. Follow our adventures sailing the Mediterranean Sea, living on our sailboat!
