The cockpit is designed for single-handed sailing, with all controls easily reached from the helm. Inside, the generous beam and hull design lead to an interior that feels like a much larger yacht, providing exceptional living and storage space. Ideal for shallow waters, she features a deep, efficient centerboard that increases draft to 11'-4" when lowered. Built in 1988 and commissioned in 1989 BLUE STAR has only had two owners, the first for 15 years and the current owners for the past 17. Her second owner has kept her maintained by the same boat yard, the same engineer, and the same varnish / cosmetics expertise. She's never been chartered, and is kept in her own private slip in Oxford, MD on the Chesapeake Bay when in season. BLUE STAR has cruised the US East Coast and the Caribbean, and when not cruising south she has been kept protected by her full canvas winter cover. Below decks BLUE STAR's layout is especially focused on safety and offshore blue water sailing. All berths are equipped with lee cloths, the salon is designed to take full advantage of space, with a large curved dinette table and all safety reaches never out of arms distance. Here's a look round my Norfolk Gypsy, a 20' gunter-rigged sailing boat. (In the video I say "gaff-rigged", but actually it's a gunter rig). She's a shoal-draft boat (0.5m draft with centreboard up) - so able to explore shallow rivers and creeks, but also substantial enough for passages along the coast. I run through all the main elements on deck, in the cockpit and in the cabin.

In der Eagle Beach gibt es guten Ankergrund aber auch viele Jetskis, die uns als Wendepunkt auserkoren haben. In der Arashi Beach ist der Meeresgrund Korallen hart und der Anker gräbt sich nicht ein. Dafür gibt es viel zu schnorcheln – Korallen, Fischschwärme und einige Wracks z.B. der deutsche Frachter Antilla der sich bei Ausbruch des 2. Weltkrieges plötzlich in feindlichen Gewässern wieder fand und selbst versenkte. Wir entscheiden uns unseren Besuch auf Aruba abzubrechen und nach Santa Marta Kolumbien aufzubrechen. Das Wetterfenster ist günstig. In den kommenden Tagen sind Flauten und eine aus dem zentralen Atlantik kommende Depression angekündigt. Also jetzt oder erstmal nicht. Wir fahren zum berühmten Customspier und dürfen nachdem alle Unterlagen bei Immigration fertiggestellt sind, auf die Frage, wann wir abreisen werden, lernen, dass man in Aruba nicht wie sonst binnen 24 h sondern unmittelbar das Land verlassen müsse. Das ist unmöglich. Also brechen wir den Ausklarierungsprozess ab, fahren zurück zur Surf Side Beach, um am nächsten Morgen erneut bei Customs und Immigration vorstellig zu werden. Mai 2022: wir segeln eine Bavaria 40 Cruiser aus 2008 Design J&J zur Probe Prebuy im Ionischen Meer. Roomtour ab: 4:10 Eigentlich wollten wir erst 2023 mit der Schiffs-Suche beginnen. Aber wegen eines Skiunfalles hatte ich Anfang Januar 2022 viel Zeit und stöberte das ganz Internet nach dieser Bavaria 40 durch. Auf einer etwas "abgelegenen" Seite fand ich sie dann und rief "spaßeshalber" am 18. Januar 2022 den österreichischen Verkäufer an. Was als einfach Informationsbeschaffung über diesen Schiffstyp begann, entwickelte sich dann innerhalb weniger Tage zum echten Kaufwunsch. Leider war das Schiff bis September 2022 noch im Charter und etliche rechtliche Fragen bezüglich der Nachversteuerung und Deregistrierung noch nicht geklärt. Dafür entschieden wir uns zu dem Probetörn Ende Mai und hatten zu dem Zeitpunkt bereits einen Vorvertrag mit Übergabe 1.10.22 vereinbart. This Bruce Farr designed vessel was built in the Waquiez yard in Lille, France. Her single owner commissioned the project, upgrading the structure and systems from the beginning.
