Plötzlich meldet das National Hurrican Center Florida eine Tiefdruckentwicklung im Tropischen Atlantik mit Verlaufsprognose im äußersten Süden des Karibischen Beckens also nur knapp nördlich von Aruba, Bonaire und Curacao. Auf seiner weiteren Laufbahn hat sich dieser Tropensturm später zu Hurrican Bonnie entwickelt. Große Aufregung bei befreundeten Yachten, die sich bereits auf den ABC-Insel in Sicherheit wähnten und die uns nun rieten, hier auf den BVI zu bleiben. Dem Tropischen Sturm folgt jedoch mit einem Abstand von wenigen Tagen ein weiterer Tropischer Sturm, diesmal mit direktem Kurs auf die BVI. Der Abstand zwischen beiden ist zu kurz, um eben schnell nach Bonnaire zu segeln. Das Warten ging also weiter, bis wir am 03.07. endlich zu unserer Passage nach Bonnaire starten konnten. Wir planen unseren Törn mit PredictWind. Der Törn wird 3 – 4 Tage dauern. Wind und Böen sind zu Beginn und zum Ende stark, in der Mitte moderat. Das Gleiche gilt für die Wellenhöhe, was für einen komfortablen Törn meist wichtiger ist als der Wind selbst. Bei Wind und Welle zählt nicht nur die Stärke sondern auch die Richtung. Starke Winde und hohe Wellen von achtern, sind meist angenehm, während derselbe Wind von vorn zu einem schrecklichen Gebolze werden kann. MariaNoa liegt gut vertäut in Little Harbour auf Peter Island. Es heißt also zunächst die Landleinen zu bergen. Es ist hier so friedlich, dass wir noch Muße haben, den Meeresschildkröten zuzusehen. Bevor man ein Land verlässt, ist auszuklarieren. Wir besuchen Customs und Immigration in Spanish Town auf Virgin Gorda und verbinden dies mit unserem 5. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Nothing but quality, crew having fun amongst the paradise of the south western Caribbean in a region of Panama called San Blas. Beautiful pristine beaches and islands literally in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes the girls are in bikinis, sometimes we are sailing, sometimes we spearfish and have beach barbecues. A tour of Tranquility, a 36' Aluminum Hull sailing yacht built in France in 1989 and recently purchased by @sailingtranquility for 24,000€ with big plans to upgrade and refit almost the entire boat. This tour was filmed the morning after one of the strongest storms I've experienced in any situation, with winds up to 65 knots / 120km/h and nearly constant lightning, where we dragged over 500 meters and got stuck in soft, shallow mud. Then we install our anchor and chain on our boat while at the mooring, using our windlass. So who is this crazy sailing couple making fun videos to share? Well, we are Kate and Curtis. As race winning regatta sailors, we already knew how to sail before we both sold up and headed out to sea, and had the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! We enjoy both solo sailing (while the other is sleeping) and doublehanded sailing (as a couple). Many people want to know if we are like Sailing la Vagabonde, well not quite. We don't have a catamaran, there are no kids (yet), and our plan from the get go was to go around the world via the southern ocean. Before we left we did watch (and still do), and were inspired by other sailing channels such as Gone With The Wynns, Nahoa, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, and well of course the original, SV Delos. Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months doing a bit of boat restoration and re-fitting in Rhode Island with solar panels, lithium batteries, a watermaker, wind power, and more and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, installing a inner forestay (cutter rig staysail) and new rudder bearings, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. After leaving the Azores we sailed to Tenerife. From there we have left on a huge voyage, transatlantic again, this time to South America as we head for our goal of rounding cape horn to enter the pacific ocean. After two seasons sailing our new Fountaine Pajot catamaran we decided to switch to an Outremer performance catamaran to continue our liveaboard cruising project on a sailboat. We didn't know how we wanted to cruise until we got out there and did it and realized we were on the wrong platform to sail the way we wanted to for a circumnavigation.
