One of the things I love about sailing the world and traveling the way we do is trying new foods and learning new ways of cooking. In Trinidad, one of the clear winners has been Green Seasoning! A simple yet versatile seasoning mix, we'd never come across it before visiting the Caribbean. Now, it goes on BBQ ribs and chicken, and into our Trini curries, almost becoming a staple in our galley fridge! I show you how I make a flavorful, Trinidad-inspired green seasoning, a staple in Caribbean cuisine, before finishing off with some delicious BBQ! In mine I put thyme, spring onions (chives), pimento, habanero and parsley, garlic when I remember, and usually a bit of oil and lime juice. It was tough to control the the remote control yachts in blustery conditions off the pontoon at SLYC during the Saturday morning racing. After a nice rounding and gybe at the top mark a big puff sent this yacht down the mine and into a massive nosedive and round up. With the pressure going from 5 to 15 in seconds it was hard to get the nose away after the wind made it hard to play. The team at bottom up boats love racing of all shapes and sizes, I loved taking this footage and spending a few minutes on the dock talking to some life long sailors who now enjoy racing from the peer long past the days that their sea legs have deserted them. I ritmi si fanno via via più sciolti mentre l’equipaggio si amalgama. I pasti, i turni di notte, le manovre. Poi che albe. E che tramonti. Per esempio quello di stasera è stato speciale. Immaginate la situazione: Tramonto, Blu dell’oceano che sfuma sul rosa del cielo. Onda lenta, immensa, costante. Sto leggendo sotto il boma un libro che mi assorbe completamente quando Andre porta su il pianoforte e inizia a suonare. Lentamente la mia attenzione viene attratta dalla musica che vola a un centimetro da queste onde lunghe e alte. Così alzo gli occhi e lascio che il mio sguardo mi conduca verso approdi inesplorati. Mentre guardo il movimento dell’oceano (solo di questo si potrebbe scrivere un libro), dal pozzetto la musica si interrompe e un vociare si solleva. Qualcuno ha detto balene? Delfini? Orche? Ci voltiamo tutti verso una macchia a un centinaio di metri da noi e vediamo una famiglia di orche nuotare placidamente verso nord. Che creature meravigliose. Perfino da qui lo sento. Tutti noi siamo freschi di “terrorismo orchesco” a Gibilterra quindi non sappiamo bene se goderci il momento o allarmarci. Per fortuna la natura prosegue il suo corso e la famiglia di orche sparisce presto dalla nostra vista, protetta da questa immensa distesa blu notte. Come tutto ciò che ci circonda, d’altronde. C.
