Jakarta was always in the plan when we set off to sail from one end of Sumatra to the other. As much as we love isolated places we also love to explore metropolises. And where better than Jakarta, the most populated city in SE Asia on the most populated island in the world! It is a city of contrasts: poverty and wealth; beauty and squalor; history and modernity; pain and joy. We were met invariably by smiles and a welcome everywhere we went.
