We Had to Dodge Whales All the Way to Langebaan | S5 E31

We left Hout Bay after weeks of boat work and paperwork, ready to see a little more of South Africa before saying goodbye to it for good. First stop: anchoring beneath Table Mountain in Cape Town — a view we didn't need to go ashore to appreciate. From there, we sailed to Dassen Island, a protected seabird sanctuary off the West Coast, where freezing conditions and a dinghy full of nerves led us straight into hundreds of breaching whales. The next morning, with the spinnaker up and whales still surfacing on every side, we sailed the final stretch to Langebaan — dodging humpbacks the whole way and racing our friends aboard Rolling Stones for good measure.
