Calm Seas to Chaos: Solo Sail from Lizard Island to Bewick Island (Ep.0087)

This episode is one of those sails where everything happens at once. Leaving Lizard Island, the day starts calm calmly enough — before the ocean suddenly switches on. Out of nowhere, the pelagics fire up and I hook multiple fish in rapid succession while under sail, all with other sailboats nearby, the wind building, a squall marching straight toward me and while heading into a reef system What follows is solo sailing chaos: juggling fish on the line, keeping clear of other vessels, managing tangled sheets and halyards in rising wind, and trying to keep the boat balanced as the weather closes in. It’s sailing while trying to do five jobs at once and the ocean refuses to give you a break. But once the fish are dealt with, the squall passes, the lines are sorted, and the boat settles back into her groove, the payoff is unreal — the kind of moment only a solo sailor gets to feel.
