Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/sqJxHm0D5MY Today we're kicking off a project that our tiny Captain has been eagerly awaiting since we first explained to her that we were going to build a new boat. At first glance it appeared to be pretty straight forward, but once we started diving into it and saw just how many options and considerations there are, we quickly realized that this (like most things in boat building) was not as simple as it seemed. But also like most things in boat building, you just have to take things one step at a time and answer each question at it comes, and that's exactly what we're up to in this week's episode! We also say goodbye to Conor in this week's episode, and we absolutely HAVE to give him a proper shout out and soooo much love for all his help during these three weeks...and of course to Dan and the guys, Bill, all you guys watching right now for making this not only possible, but SO freaking fun and rewarding! Meet 'The Swallows' - The Swallow Yachts Association Join Ian and Claire as they share their love for sailing and their plans for the rest of the summer's sailing. In this video, they talk about their first steps into the sailing world and why, after attending the raid last year in Mylor Ian decided that the BRE is "The best day boat you can buy". You’ll get a glimpse into their experience sailing as a couple, their learning journey, and the joys of cruising in a BayRaider. Having had the pleasure of sailing with them this year, I can vouch for their warmth, enthusiasm, and insightful perspectives on Swallow Yachts and the magic of sailing. Don't miss their inspiring story and a look into the unique camaraderie of the Swallow Yachts Raid community. The thought of the day. A friend of mine messaged out of concern about the dinghy that seems to cover our forward hatch. Our boat surveyor mentioned the importance of this from day one, and we have maintained it since day one. Let me know- do you do this and feel it is important, or do you lash the dinghy on the deck? I Imagine a lot of smaller boats tie the dinghy to the foredeck.
This past weekend we took Brett sailing with us and unintentionally ended up stuck in the middle of a yacht race. If you enjoy our videos, please like and subscribe to our channel or you can find us on Instagram @ashleigh_erin13
Epic Navigator In this video, we analyze a real incident at Alimos Marina, where a monohull stops at the narrowest point of the entrance, blocking traffic under westerly wind conditions and creating immediate risk for surrounding vessels and the harbor entrance. This is not a discussion about infrastructure, marina design, or lack of assistance. It is a discussion about seamanship. Seamanship is not defined by equipment or facilities. It is defined by judgment, situational awareness, and responsibility toward others at sea. In this analysis, we break seamanship down into three fundamental principles: 1.Does the action help the skipper without putting others at risk? 2.Does it improve or obstruct the flow and safety of the surrounding environment? 3.Would the same action be acceptable if it were done to us? Using real footage from a Greek marina, we examine how individual decisions can escalate risk for everyone, especially in confined spaces and adverse wind conditions. This video is part of an ongoing effort to document real-world situations in Greek harbors and to promote practical, operational seamanship — not theory, not blame, but clear judgment and accountability at sea. If you value calm analysis, real incidents, and skill-based seamanship, your input is welcome in the comments.
