The crew goes on a fishing expedition to the south end of Saloman Atoll in the remote Chagos archipelago and discovers an abandoned village vacated by the Chagosians over 50 years ago. Even though the village has an eerie vibe to it the chance to explore such an amazing place is just too much to pass up. We move Delos from our anchorage at Fuequet Island to Baddam Island to begin our exploration. In one of the abandoned ruined houses we find an old DVD disc, laying in the dirt, that details the history of the Chagosian people and how they were forcibly removed from their home and exiled from their islands. It's a crazy, crazy story..... There are lot's of abandoned buildings, camps, rubbish, and of course massive Coconut Crabs running around. During our time at Baddam the BIOT patrol boat shows up and invites us over for a BBQ on their massive ship. We have a hell of a party and end up spending the night. Good times were had by all! This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing, but it's also a story about the fantastic people we meet and amazing places we see. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. In this episode we sail through the roaring 40s and it was crazy! Definitely the most intense part of our 3000NM passage from South Africa to La Reunion. We had wind speeds of over 50kn, 23–32ft (7–10m) waves and in the middle of everything our autopilot breaks and it’s hand steering from now on! A bit of a tester as our new crew have not hand steered before. Our whole world was getting slammed and tossed around in the waves and I think Brady described it pretty well “It feels like if your driving a car, with your eyes closed on a bumpy dirt road for days. Nahoa is a 2005 Lagoon 410 owner’s version that has carried us all this way. We have worked hard over these last years to set her up for long term offshore cruising. While there is always a project list and a wish list (new high output alternators, spinnaker, new Genoa), we are very happy with our current setup and wanted to share it with you. This is it! These are the conditions we sought to test us. We encounter FORCE 10 48+ knot wind gusts and heavy seas as we sail around Cape Horn to starboard. This is scary sailing, on the edge, and it is not for the faint of heart. You may get seasick. Don't try this at home! #sailing #adventure #epic This is the sailing we know you wanted to see when you subscribed. You wanted to see if we were tough enough. You wanted to see if we could make it. You wanted to see a great adventure and sailing in extreme conditions. We went looking for these conditions as we felt that choosing a calm weather window to round Cape Horn would be, well, disappointing, not to you, but to us. It would not be the challenge we were looking for. We wanted to summit the Mt. Everest. Somehow, climbing that mountain on a sunny warm day with no wind and waves felt like selling ourselves short. We wanted huge waves. We wanted gale force winds. We wanted freezing cold temps. Some may say seeking out these conditions is unsafe, or risky. Those people are not 100% wrong, but we say those people are living in fear. Don't be afraid! To experience true freedom is to live life without fear. That being said, do not go sailing in these conditions without being well prepared and able to self rescue, do not put your life, your sailboat, and the lives of sea rescue personnel are at risk. We are both very experienced sailors and have sailed countless miles in harsh conditions while racing, solo sailing, and doublehanded sailing to prepare for this type of sailing. March 2017 Out of season sailing in the Mediterranean can mean big seas and gale force winds...
