Jono Pank and Isobel Bretherton won the GJW Direct Bloody Mary Pursuit Race, the sixth leg of the Seldén Sailjuice Winter Series, held at Queen Mary Sailing Club on Saturday 10th January 2026. Second place went to Angus Cook and Lucie Hopkins, also sailing a Firefly, while third place was taken by Ian Dobson and his son Ted in their Mirror dinghy. Jono Pank became the first sailor to win the Bloody Mary two years in a row, having taken the trophy last year with his son Freddie. This is a remarkable achievement, considering the number of variables and conditions required for such a result. The winning team from Imperial Poona Yacht Club crossed the line ahead of a 124-boat fleet, featuring sailors representing 42 boat classes from 62 sailing clubs. The race was held in a north-easterly Force 2-3, with the sun making a welcome appearance throughout. Over the last months, we and our team frequently found ourselves discussing what we missed most about sailing. It soon became apparent that we were suffering from a general sensory nostalgia. We yearned for the sound of the sea breeze, the feeling of wind as it pulls the sail, the sense of utter freedom once the boat picks up speed. We craved all of that and more. We decided to put our nostalgia to good use by creating #Trustyoursenses video, a little cinematic tribute to the sensory magic of sailing. Now that travel is possible again, it has become a celebration of those simple pleasures that we will never again take for granted. Watch it, get inspired, start sailing. Robbed at a petrol station after sailing to Indonesia - Ep 182 Bluewater sailing to a new country is always very exciting. The sights, the sounds and the challenges of discovering a new culture are balanced by the trials and tribulations of the checking in process, which Rob successfully completed without the aid of an agent. We were also confronted with the language barrier when Rob experienced a somewhat underhand but obvious scam that appears to take place at the petrol pumps here in Indonesia. Thank you for helping keep us afloat and supporting the creative process. It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #TheCruisingKiwis #Indonesia

🌊 Galápagos Part 2 🐢✨ Two weeks were never going to be enough… so here we are, diving even deeper into the magic of the Galápagos. This place is unlike anywhere else on Earth. Raw, wild, and completely untouched. Above water, it already feels surreal — but beneath the surface, it’s a whole different world. We slip below the waves and suddenly we’re surrounded by life. Schools of fish moving like one, curious sea lions darting around us, and then… the giants. Graceful, ancient, powerful. Seeing these incredible animals up close, in their natural habitat, is something that stays with you. It’s quiet, it’s humbling — and honestly, a little overwhelming in the best possible way. Every dive feels like stepping into a documentary. No filters, no barriers — just nature at its most real. At the same time, life on board continues to evolve. We’re changing crew, reorganizing, preparing — but somehow, it all feels effortless this time. Calm. Natural. Like everything is exactly where it should be. And while we’re still soaking in every second here… there’s something big waiting on the horizon. Stay tuned 🌅⛵️

After 2½ unforgettable months in the Whitsundays, it was finally time to point ARGO north and begin our passage to Townsville. Over 5 days we meandered our way up the coast, treated to an incredible mix of moments – whales breaching nearby, Kym taking the helm as skipper, and the excitement of catching our very first Spanish mackerel (a monster at over a metre long!). With steady winds and some beautiful sails along the way, this leg of the journey was a reminder of why we love life afloat – the surprises, the challenges, and the pure joy of the sea. Watch as we leave the Whitsundays behind and embrace the next chapter of our sailing adventure. Thanks for watching.
