We’ve just released the first episode of our Cape to Cape New Zealand series—starting at the stunning Cape Egmont Lighthouse and winding our way through the epic Forgotten World Highway, ending in the quirky republic of Whangamomona. Expect: ✅Laughs (including a motorhome water leak!) ✅Debates (Adam’s idea of a “picnic spot” is questionable) ✅Scenic gems ✅And a taste of New Zealand’s rugged, remote backroads. Watch now on YouTube and join us as we travel New Zealand by motorhome—Cape to Cape! We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. After years of being career focused, we decided it was time to shake things up and sought a lifestyle that would provide us with new experiences, humble us, allow us to visit remote locations, and experience new cultures. In 2021, we traded our regular suburban lifestyle for a nomadic one and moved aboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, a Chico 40. After three years sailing in New Zealand and preparing for Category 1 (regulations for New Zealand registered vessels planning to sail offshore), we set sail from New Zealand to Fiji on the 23 May 2024. This would be Vicki and Tāiko's first ocean passage and Adam's third. We have since sailed to Vanuatu and New Caledonia, where we will be during the cyclone season. We fund our lifestyle by working part time. This sometimes involves returning to New Zealand to help top up the bank account. The other avenue is through our content creation where we document our journey though YouTube videos and our our social media accounts and website. We would love for you to follow our progress as we navigate a nomadic lifestyle. If our content is something that you enjoy, please consider supporting our channel. This one cabinet will eventually power our entire catamaran. Last episode we installed our two Victron MultiPlus II units, officially kicking off the installation of our electrical system. Now we’re moving on to the cabinet where all of our breakers will live — the place that will ultimately distribute power to every major system on board. And there are a lot of them. Matt has spent years planning out this system, carefully considering not only what each breaker will power, but also where each one should be placed so the panel is logical and easy to use once we’re living aboard full time. In this episode we start laying out and installing the breakers that will eventually control everything from lighting and navigation electronics to pumps and onboard systems. It’s one more step toward bringing the electrical system to life. We also want to give a huge thank you to everyone who purchased wire from our Amazon wish list. Your support helps keep this project moving forward, and we’re incredibly grateful to have such an amazing community behind us as we build this boat. We’re already working on the next round of projects for the boat, and while they’re not quite ready to show yet, they’re well underway and will be coming in the next episode. Subscribe to follow along as we continue building our performance cruising catamaran from the ground up. The next stage of the build will involve running a lot of wire throughout the boat. If you’d like to help support that part of the project, we’ve added many of the cables and supplies we need to our Amazon wishlist: Amazon Wishlist https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2B2BOYEH9THAH/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1 Thank you for following along with the build!

Ben's shaping the centreline or keel using a traditional tool—an Adze–which, as he describes, is one of, or possibly, the oldest tool used by mankind. With the Adze he's specifically shaping the rebate on the keel, called the 'rabbet', where the garboard plank will sit. Justin, the yard manager at Gweek Quay Classic Boatyard, gives insight into Ben Harris' daring project, pointing out the risks involved and the characteristics needed for success: "At the moment, wood is insanely expensive, so taking a risk with a lot of wood is not going to be done by many people at the moment, that's for sure.". FYI the schooner project is for sale, as previously mentioned in other episodes. Ben's website has more details on this, and the best way to contact him is through that website (link below). Next, in the coming days, another video will reveal Ben's plan with the keel casting. Backstory: In December 2024, traditional boat builder Ben Harris announced his most daring project yet – building a John Alden-designed schooner. Subscribe to Classic Yacht TV for more updates! Apply to volunteer on the build of MALABAR IV via Ben Harris' website: https://bit.ly/MalabarIV-schooner-new-build Shot and edited by Emily Harris / Classic Yacht TV Credits: Hart Nautical Collection, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
