This is a part 1 of a 3 series of our sailing adventures to Belize. We set sail from Puerto Aventuras in Mexico from the southern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. We had about a 200 nautical passage, that we split up over a 3 day period. We took advantage of the great winds and loved every minute of sailing. Our heading was directed south for our first atoll, called Chinchorro. We arrived just before sunset and had the whole place all on our own. We discuss the main reasons to join a sailing rally, the different types of sailing rallies, and interview participants and organizers of the GLY World Odyssey 500 rally. The rally we will sail with is organized by Grande Large Yachting, a company that owns 5 different shipyards, and the rally was planned to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the first round the world by Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastian El Cano 1519-1522. There are 32 boats in the rally and BioTrek is joining in Martinique, although most boats started in France and crossed the Atlantic Ocean together. The rally was planned with the help of Jimmy Cornell, founder of the ARC and renowned world cruiser.
