We found it too difficult to attend the Heiva events from our location on the southeast side of Bora Bora, so we moved back to the southwest side of the island, which was much more convenient for getting around. Our new base proved to be a fantastic change, allowing us to attend the root vegetable competition, another dance performance, and even a modern boxing match. Baja California’s Magdalena Bay is home to some of the most incredible animals in the ocean. The warm waters and upwelling bring in huge amounts of baitfish that in turn are hunted by striped marlin, California sea lions, dolphins, whales, and sometimes even sharks. While the main focus of the trip is bait balls of sardines and mackerel and the animals predating on them, we can also encounter many other migrating species, such as Humpback whales, schooling mobula rays, and possibly other surprise guests!

#149d | How to find the right Caravan ▬ ÜBER DIESEN FILM ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Vor dem Kauf eines Wohnmobils steht der Verkauf unserer geliebten MariaNoa – zumindest die Vorbereitung zum Verkauf. Nach dem Einklarieren in Australien haben wir in „The Boats Works“ MariaNoa an Land stellen lassen und das Antifouling erneuert, die Propeller mit ihren Ropecuttern neu montiert, den Service beider Motoren gemacht und die Hülle polieren lassen. Hier am Steg des „Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club“ haben wir vor allem das Schiff leergeräumt. Containerweise haben wir Ausrüstungsgegenstände und persönliche Dinge weggeworfen, weil es einfach keinen finanziellen Sinn macht, diese für horrendes Geld nach Deutschland zu verschiffen. Es war absurd, sich von vielen teilweise neuwertigen Dingen zu trennen, die durchaus ihren Wert haben. Einen Caravan für ein halbes Jahr zu mieten, ist viel zu teuer. Wir suchen nach einem gebrauchten Wohnmobil („preloved“ wie es hier manchmal heißt) für unsere Roadtour durch Australien und werden es am Ende unserer Reise wieder verkaufen. Noch wissen wir nicht, wie groß es sein soll, wie alt und wie teuer. Aber es zeichnet sich langsam ab, dass uns eine Raumaufteilung wichtig ist, dass einerseits ein Bett ständig zur Verfügung steht und gleichzeitig eine Sitzgelegenheit mit Tisch, an dem ich arbeiten kann, wenn ich wieder einmal nachts nicht schlafen kann. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue. Auf der Suche nach Freiheit und Unabhängigkeit, Abenteuerlust und Naturverbundenheit segeln wir - Brigitta und Hannes - gemeinsam um die Welt.
