After spending three beautiful weeks exploring the Tioman Islands, Malaysia, we finally set sail towards Terempa, Anambas Islands, Indonesia. This episode captures our 140 nautical mile passage across the South China Sea, with a planned stop at Jemaja Island, one of the larger islands in the Anambas archipelago. As we sailed, Vee took the night watch under a stunning full moon — one of those magical sailing moments that the camera simply can’t do justice to. The first 24 hours were calm and comfortable, and it felt special sailing just the two of us together after a long time. By mid-day, we entered Indonesian waters, greeted by unreal shades of blue — sky and sea blending into one. We anchored at Jemaja, an island that also has an airport, and soon realized how quickly weather can change in the South China Sea. With rough weather forecasted, we were grateful to have taken shelter. We also discovered that our bilge pump setup hadn’t worked as planned (from the previous episode), so we stayed aboard to fix things and ended the day with a refreshing sea swim. After 2–3 days, once the weather improved, we sailed onward to Terempa, Anambas, where things got interesting again — rough weather, and then we realized a pin from our mainsail had come loose mid-sail. Gaurav also shares a valuable tip on how to prepare for bad weather at sea, stressing the importance of timely action and closely monitoring weather apps. After an eventful sail, we finally arrived at Terempa, where officials from Customs, Immigration, Health, and Port Authority came onboard to officially check us into Indonesia. The Anambas Islands are a remote and pristine archipelago in Indonesia, known for crystal-clear waters, untouched reefs, and their off-the-beaten-path beauty — a true sailor’s paradise. After last week’s episode, where you saw us sailing through a sudden squall in the South China Sea, we finally arrived at Tarempa, the capital of the Anambas Islands, Indonesia, aboard our sailboat SV Reeva. One of the most common questions we receive as a liveaboard sailing family is: How do sailboats check into another country? In this episode, we explain how to enter Indonesia by sailboat, covering the full Indonesia immigration process for yachts, especially in a remote cruising destination like Anambas Islands. To make the international boat clearance smooth, we took the help of a local Indonesia sailing agent. In Indonesia, the customs and immigration clearance for sailboats happens onboard. Government officials visit the yacht, including Port Control / Harbour Master (who checks boat registration and safety documents), the Health Inspector, Customs, and Immigration officials. Once all boat papers and passports are verified, our passports are taken ashore and returned with official Indonesian entry stamps. With clearance complete, we are legally checked into Indonesia and ready to continue our sailing adventure in Southeast Asia. The Anambas Islands are one of Indonesia’s hidden sailing paradises, known for crystal-clear waters, untouched coral reefs, quiet anchorages, and pristine island life. Anette and Anders are passionate ocean wanderers who have been living aboard S/V Horizon, their Outbound 46, since 2018. They were in New Zealand and wanted to sail to Tasmania but they took a long route via Japan and Alaska. In this meticulous presentation they describe the voyage which began in early June 2025. They crossed in 9 days from Hokaido to Attu and then hugged the Aleutian Archipelago spending most of their time within the 12 mile limit in order to limit their Starlink bill. They describe the flora and fauna they encountered along the way and offer copious advice to those wishing to follow in their wake. Only 8 sailboats made this voyage in the summer of 2025.
