When we dove the wreck, we swam with a few — but under our boat there were hundreds. I dropped the GoPro in to see how many were cruising by, and if you look closely, you can spot them in the background too. Welcome to Bermuda, the land of historic turquoise waters, white sand beaches, cathedrals, caves, underwater caverns, and the Bermuda Triangle platter at “Wahoos” restaurant. We rented a car (if you can call it that), and went to explore Spanish Point, Admiralty House Park and Tunnels And Crystal Caves The grand finale? A boat dragging anchor. Spanish Point was evidently named after the Spanish ship that first explored the reefs. Admiralty House Tunnels were dug by a captain that reach from the cove to the house. The large circular room was just for fun at parties. Crystal Caves were discovered In 1907 by Carl Gibbon and Edgar Hollis while playing cricket.  When the ball disappeared into a hole the boys went to retrieve it. But the hole kept getting deeper and deeper. They had discovered was the entrance to the natural wonder of these underground caverns. Owned by Wilkonson family since 1884, they set up a research trip to find out how deep it went. A 14 year old was lowered into the hole by his father using a strong rope tied to a tree 140 feet down. With just a bicycle lamp, he witnessed the magnificent splendor of the crystal formations around a lake 55 ft deep. Even Mark Twain visited - twice - and described the shining stalactites, thousands and thousands of them as white as sugar, and thousands and thousands brown and pink and other tints. The caves were also used in the film Neptune’s Daughter. Meanwhile in St. George's Harbor, we got to wait out a 24-hour 45-knot wind storm in the anchorage that had everyone on alert, while we watched a boat drag anchor and hit another boat. Evidently the captain had gone ashore to check in. We have a rule - we don’t leave the boat in bad weather. No exceptions. Early Connection to the Sea: Captain Bill's love for the ocean began in childhood, spending summers at the beach in Connecticut with his small rowing skiff, Moby Dink. From crabbing and fishing to his first business selling bait crabs for 2 cents apiece, the water has been central to his life. Each person can make a difference, even when facing overwhelming environmental challenges. The Tabor Academy Oyster Farm: A Model for Success: As a concrete example of regenerative practices, Captain Bill established the Tabor Academy Oyster Farm in partnership with the town of Marion, Massachusetts. This community-based project allowed high school students to propagate Eastern oysters in their natural waters, learning how food is grown while supporting local commercial fishermen and contributing to sustainable fishing practices. The oyster farm demonstrated that grassroots environmental projects can succeed when communities work together. Local Solutions Over Large-Scale Operations: Captain Bill believes the most successful sustainable practices happen at the community level. While large-scale operations are possible, they often lose focus on core values due to management complications and reduced individual investment. Communities connected to local projects feel empowered to create positive change for future generations. Consumer Responsibility and Local Food Systems: Addressing consumer impact, Captain Bill advocates for supporting local food systems rather than relying on products shipped across oceans using massive natural resources.
