바다는 언제나 신비롭다. 겉으로 보기엔 고요하지만 안으로 들어가면 상상하지 못한 생명들이 숨어 있다. 오늘은 요트 선석에 붙은 해초를 정리했다. 지난번에는 스크류 프로펠러에 톳이 잔뜩 감겨 있었는데, 이번에도 해초 사이에서 성게, 멍게, 소라 같은 바다 생물들이 모습을 드러냈다. 그중에는 정체를 알 수 없는 콧물 같은 낯선 생물도 있었다. 살아 있는 듯 꿈틀거리고 내장 같은 것도 보여 한동안 눈을 뗄 수 없었다. 단순한 청소였지만 마치 신기한 해양 생물들로 가득한 작은 아쿠아리움을 다녀온 기분이었다. 바다는 여전히 신비롭다. 그 속에서 만나는 경험 하나하나가 새롭고 신기하게 다가온다.

Liapari was probably the hub for visiting yachts in the Solomons for about 20 years. Alas the place felt apart in 2021 when the owner/manager passed away and ownership disputes went to court! Looking at the location, one would easily imagine why this place attracted a successful marina and boatyard. Who knows what the future will bring! Since then, the new Solomons sailing hub is being built in Noro. Filmed in May 2025.

I was swimming with a curious young humpback whale when things got a little too close for comfort! He kept approaching until we were literally eye to eye — an absolutely mesmerizing moment. I was so focused on his gaze that I completely lost track of where his massive pectoral fin was… and then boom! I got smacked! It felt like getting hit by concrete — totally accidental, but a powerful reminder of how strong these gentle giants really are. Juvenile humpback whales are known for their playful and inquisitive behavior, especially when their mothers are close by. His mom was just below us the whole time, calmly watching over her adventurous calf. Seeing that mother-calf bond and their natural behavior up close was truly magical. 💙 🎥 Watch for: 🐋 Eye-to-eye moments with a humpback calf 🌊 Playful whale behavior and mother-calf interaction 💥 The moment I accidentally got smacked by his fin!
