In this video, I explain how a Search and Rescue Radar Transponder (SART) helps rescuers locate ships and liferafts at sea using radar, and why it is a mandatory SOLAS Lifesaving Device Every Ship MUST Have! Modern maritime search and rescue relies on technologies that most people never see. Radar, SART, EPIRB are used by ships, helicopters and rescue coordination centers to find survivors and vessels in vast ocean areas, even in poor visibility and heavy weather. 00:00 – What Is a SART and How Ships Are Found at Sea 00:54 – SART vs EPIRB: Ship Emergency Equipment Explained 01:23 – Where SART Is Located on a Ship and How to Deploy It 02:08 – SOLAS Requirements: Mandatory Ship Emergency Equipment 02:28 – Which Radar Detects SART: X-Band vs S-Band 02:53 – How Ships Are Found at Sea: SART Signal on Radar 03:37 – SART Detection Range in Maritime Search and Rescue 04:12 – Why SART Signals Can Be Weak or Blocked 04:43 – Best Radar Range for SART Detection 05:05 – Radar Settings for SART Detection (Step-by-Step) 05:51 – Radar Side Lobes and Their Effect on SART Detection 06:16 – How to Test Ship Emergency Equipment: SART Testing 06:41 – SART Battery Life and Operating Time Explained 07:19 – SART Design and SOLAS Performance Standards 07:58 – Using Radar Reflectors with SART: What to Know 08:20 – AIS-SART Explained: Modern Maritime Search and Rescue For additional information: - IMO SN/Circ. 197 - OPERATION OF MARINE RADAR FOR SART DETECTION -- Recommendation ITU-R M.628-5 - Technical characteristics for search and rescue radar transponders --- IMO RESOLUTION MSC.510(105) - PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR SEARCH AND RESCUE RADAR TRANSPONDERS ---- IMO RESOLUTION MSC.246(83) - ADOPTION OF PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR SURVIVAL CRAFT AIS SEARCH AND RESCUE TRANSMITTERS (AIS-SART) FOR USE IN SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS #SART #GMDSS #searchandrescue #MaritimeSafety #SOLAS #ShipSafety #LifesavingEquipment
You could be breaking the law without even knowing it. The rules on the water keep changing, and what was legal yesterday might land you a massive fine today. We're not talking about obvious smuggling—we're talking about everyday items hiding in your lazarette right now. In this video, we break down 10 Common Items That Are ILLEGAL to Have on a Boat in 2026. From the specific type of gas can you use to the drone you fly at anchor, we cover the surprising regulations that trip up honest sailors during Coast Guard inspections. We cover: • The "Toy" That's a Weapon: Why green laser pointers are now a major liability. • Drone Laws: The registration traps that can get your gear confiscated. • Marine Toilets: Why your Y-valve might be illegal even if you aren't using it. • Expired Flares: Why keeping them as "spares" is actually a violation. • Firearms: The complex reality of carrying protection across borders. Don't let a routine inspection ruin your weekend. Check your gear against this list. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: • 00:00 Intro: The Rules Have Changed • 00:49 1. Laser Pointers • 01:47 2. It may be a little-known fact, but the increased inclusion of women in shipping can make workplaces safer, more efficient and can promote innovation. This animation illustrates how gender diversity brings fresh perspectives, strengthens teamwork, and even helps reduce risky behaviours on the job. Designed as a conversation starter, the video encourages you to reflect, discuss and take concrete actions towards creating inclusive and sustainable maritime workplaces. Commissioned by IMO’s SENSREC Project, this video shows how gender inclusivity benefits both workers and industry. Visit https://sensrec.imo.org/ to find out how the promotion of gender inclusivity leads to better outcomes for everyone.

Back to actual building stuff as we prepare for our Electric Motor Installation. Now it is for the actual motor batteries (and sorting the galley plus the hold downs for two of the batteries in the House 48V bank). We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. Two ongoing jobs are preparing for our electric motor installation and creating a cockpit enclosure for our wheelhouse. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). The Great Loop isn’t something you dabble in. It’s roughly 6,000 miles of rivers, lakes, locks, coastlines, currents, weather windows, and decisions that truly matter. Today’s guest, Curtis Stokes, understands that kind of journey—not from theory, but from a lifetime on the water. Curtis grew up boating and fishing. He sailed the East Coast and the Bahamas long before most of us ever touched a helm—myself included. That early pull toward the water became a lifelong calling. Curtis has captained vessels ranging from 75-foot classics to 180-foot superyachts, completed multiple circumnavigations, crossed the Atlantic more than half a dozen times, and logged countless offshore and inland miles. He holds a USCG 3000-ton Master, All Oceans license, along with international master certification—credentials earned only through experience, sound judgment, and responsibility at sea. As a longtime member of America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association, Curtis brings bluewater discipline to inland cruising, where bridges replace waves, timing replaces tides, and preparation makes all the difference. This podcast is for people drawn to the Great Loop—the dreamers, the planners, and those already underway. We’ll talk about boats, routes, seasons, safety, and real-world decision-making, guided by someone who has navigated both oceans and inland waterways with equal respect. This is about cruising the Loop smarter—and cruising safer. Transcript: https://www.yachtsite.com/reference/secrets-of-the-great-loop-with-curtis-stokes/

Treasure is always in the eye of the beholder. Whenever I’m walking along a beach, my gaze is constantly sweeping the sand for shark teeth, arrowheads, unusual shells, or—if luck is really on my side—a stray gold doubloon. Even with the beach packed with people, we still managed to uncover a few shark teeth and some small shells. At day’s end, we laid out our finds for comparison. And, well… it appears Skipper Pete claims the prize for both quantity and quality, despite Monica’s spirited protests. What do you think? Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Essa palestra conversa com líderes, conselhos, equipes inteiras, empresas familiares, grandes corporações, instituições educacionais e organizações que precisam tomar decisões em cenários complexos e incertos. How NOT to Retire Early & Goal Cruising Everyone talks about retiring early. But almost nobody talks about what comes after — or how hard it can be to actually make the decision to step away. In this video I talk about something I call “goal cruising” — the period where you’ve achieved financial independence, but the next destination isn’t obvious. I share what I’ve learned about goals, motivation, the realities of financial independence, and how your relationship with work changes once you no longer need a job. I also talk about something people don’t often discuss: how surprisingly difficult it was both to decide to retire and then to actually follow through and do it. And I answer one of the questions I get all the time: Do I regret leaving Apple when I did? Along the way we talk about: Why retiring early isn’t always what people expect The challenge of deciding when “enough” is actually enough The psychology behind stepping away from a career What I’ve learned about the employee/employer relationship How goals evolve once survival is no longer the priority Why drifting without direction can happen even after success This video isn’t really about retirement. It’s about purpose, freedom, and figuring out what comes next.

Journey onboard the beautiful Coralia snorkeling liveaboard as we explore the breathtaking reefs around the Banda Islands and Raja Ampat. We will board the vessel in Ambon, one of the critter capitals of Indonesia. Here in Ambon, it's shallow reefs are the perfect hiding places for critters like seahorses, frogfish, octopus, nudibranchs, and a myriad of scorpionfish. From Ambon, we'll cruise into the Banda Islands, where we'll spend several days exploring the incredible reefs and walls that make this area so special. These emerald islands are historically significant as they were the original spice islands that stimulated the entire spice trade. We will have the opportunity to get a full tour of Banda Neira town. Here we'll tour the fully intact colonial buildings and even a fort, which we’ll get to explore. We will also visit old nutmeg plantations and enjoy some delicious teas and biscuits garnished with nutmeg jam! From the Bandas, we'll make a stop at an area called Koon, where we'll spend the day snorkeling around this remote atoll. This is Eastern Indonesia's largest known congregation spot for breeding fish, so with a bit of luck, we'll be treated to some big fish action! The final third of the trip will be spent in Raja Ampat, where we intend to spend some time in Misool, the Fam Islands, as well as the Dampier Strait. Finishing up in Raja will be the cherry on top of the ice cream that is this extensive liveaboard snorkeling safari!
After two months away visiting family in Canada, we finally return to our sailboat in Luperón, Dominican Republic. Leaving your boat unattended in the tropics is always a gamble, so we were relieved to find her looking surprisingly good when we arrived back. Of course, boat life means there’s always something to do. We start the process of bringing the boat back to life with a good clean and a few projects. One of the bigger ones in this episode is transforming our worn countertop by sanding it down and creating a beach-inspired epoxy finish. Coral and Kai are entertaining each others a lot more which makes it all easier. But life in Luperón isn’t just about boat work. This cruiser town has a unique community vibe. We enjoy local restaurants, movie nights with other sailors, and shopping for fresh local food around town. It feels good to be back aboard and settling into Caribbean cruising life again. And above all, to customize everything. ✨ Coming soon: The new EIGHTY 3. _______________________________________________________ CATAMARAN INNOVATORS SINCE 1984 Lagoon was formed in pursuit of connection – with ourselves, our loved ones and the world around us. By bringing the human experience to the 7 seas, we’ve been able to unleash an unbridled sense of curiosity and instinctual need for quality since 1984. Something we wouldn’t have accomplished without a collective passion for spectacular destinations and even better journeys getting there. As confirmed sailors, we all know that our boats have to be fast, comfortable and safe: seaworthy. We build them based on our love of the sea and the constant aim of good-quality work. We design them as if we were the future owners. As shipbuilders and sailors, it is part of our logic. #abayachting #fermimai #venditabarcheinesclusiva #onboard #mutuonautico #acquistarebarca #nautica #yachtbroker #compravenditabarche #brokernautico

🏊♂️ On Sunday morning I completed a 5km charity swim (200 lengths) as part of the Swimathon, raising money for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK. The swim started with a steady pace, gradually building through the middle kilometres before finishing strong in the final 1,000m. At the time of recording £124 has been raised, and across everyone taking part an incredible £405,419 has been raised so far! Thanks to everyone who has supported this challenge — it really means a lot. 👍 Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more adventures from Carl and Jenny Sailing Adventures. #Swimathon #CharitySwim #SwimmingChallenge #CancerResearch #MarieCurie ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you found it informative or entertaining please give it a thumbs as it helps get YouTube to promote it outside of the existing subscribers. Nu är den nästan här! Dax för en ny säsong ute på vattnet.
Yesterday was a solid one… two workouts, clean eating, a full gallon of water, and a proper mindset shift. 🚴♂️ Started the day with a bike session including hill work—lungs burning, legs working, but exactly what’s needed to grow. 💪 Workout number two was a Bullworker session—isometric training, resistance bands, and bodyweight exercises… and I can definitely feel it today. 🥗 Nutrition was dialled in: Porridge with raisins & banana Rye bread with 3 poached eggs & avocado Mediterranean chickpea salad with lemon Greek yoghurt with blueberries, banana & chia seeds 💧 Gallon of water ✅ 📸 Progress photo ✅ 🍺 No alcohol ✅ 📖 Currently reading Mental Fitness by Ant Middleton—some powerful lessons on resilience, discipline, and pushing past your limits. One key takeaway: 👉 Your mind gives up long before your body does. 🔥 What is 75 Hard? This isn’t just a fitness challenge—it’s a mental toughness program created by Andy Frisella. Daily rules: 2 workouts (1 must be outdoors) Follow a diet (no cheating) Drink 1 gallon of water Read 10 pages of a non-fiction book Take a progress photo No alcohol Miss ONE task… and you start back at Day 1. 💬 Let me know in the comments: Have you tried 75 Hard? Or are you thinking about starting? 👍 If you enjoyed this video: Like 👍 Subscribe 🔔 Follow the journey daily 📌 Follow the journey: More daily updates coming as I push through all 75 days—no excuses. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ***** HELP US KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING ***** Want the chance to come aboard or get unseen footage privileges?
