Here we are again, in the middle of the ocean, trying to fix stuff! The inner shroud began to fail, the wind instrument packed up, and the engine decided to increase the amount of oil it was leaking. This is a normal part of sailing. When you sail offshore, you expect gear to fail. Whilst it can really lower the morale of the boat, it also provides you with an opportunity to learn. You learn about yourself and what you are capable of doing in a new situation. Is there a way to overcome this problem? How do you get the crew and boat safely to port? What can you use to improvise a repair? "When you are going through hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill - is one of our guiding philosophies on board. We always persevere until we have resolved any problems. We know that eventually the hard times will pass. This episode covers my 7th outing in the new-to-me 1987 Precision 16 sailing dinghy I purchased locally for $800. This time I return to beautiful Aurora Reservoir in Aurora, Colorado on an unusually warm November day. Aurora Reservoir is a city park in the City of Aurora, CO. The park features a sandy swim beach, modern 3 lane boat ramp, clean restroom facilities and nice picnic areas. The reservoir permits electric motor and hand-powered watercraft only...no gas outboards permitted. The reservoir is open to boating until 1 December. The Precision 16 is a lightweight Stephen Seaton-designed un-ballasted centerboard sailing dinghy with a planing hull manufactured from 1982 until the mid 90s. It was superseded in 1995 by the smaller Jim Taylor-designed Precision 15 (P-15CB and P-15K). It was a gorgeous day for seeing the city from the water and enjoying the vibrant scene at the marina. On the way back, we couldn't resist stopping at Egmont Key! This little slice of paradise is a historic preserve and state park located at the mouth of Tampa Bay. It truly was an incredible adventure and a classic Florida trip! In this episode we get splashed but the Sardinian weather is holding us back, then we get reunited with our trusty buddy boat Tintomara and finally we find a weather window to continue our journey north along the the Sardinian coast. But while we were waiting for the wind to calm down we found ways to entertain ourselves. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Zusammen mit Rikas Schwester Julia segeln wir mit unserer Maxi 84 nach und nach durch die Dänische Südsee, um unsere Segel-Skills zu erweitern und das tolle Wassersport-Revier zu erkunden. Von den vielen kleinen Inseln und dem teilweise klaren Wasser sind wir immer wieder fasziniert. Die Ostsee-Törns sind definitiv unsere Highlights. Normalerweise trefft ihr uns jedoch auf unserem Heimatrevier direkt vor unserer Haustür an: Der Außenalster in Hamburg. Denn, wir haben uns im April 2021 einen Kielzugvogel gekauft. Mit dem Holzboot ist auch unsere Segel-Leidenschaft gestartet. Zwischen April und Oktober genießen wir also das Segeln auf der Knysna [ˈnaɪzna] (so haben wir unseren Kielzugvogel getauft, nach einer Stadt in Südafrika benannt). . Im Herbst 2023 haben wir uns einen weitern Traum erfüllt und uns eine Maxi 84 gekauft. Diese wurde von uns Ende Oktober 2023 nach Kiel überführt. Seit dem widmen wir uns im Winterlager auch diesem schwedischen Segelklassiker, im Sommer erkunden wir die Dänische Südsee.
