Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue. We whizzed out on a motorcat, Starfish, to snorkel at the Sombrero Reef. That was so cool! It’s a very popular spot right by the Sombrero Lighthouse and is the third largest coral reef in the world. Hello viewers, we’re always happy you are with us, especially our subscribers. Cleaning the sail locker we pulled out our spinnaker and staysail. They were measured, neatly folded and returned to the locker. Using the dingy again to get an accurate measure of the distance from Isabella’s stern to the shoal behind us. We decided it is 60 feet from the stern to when the depth is 6 feet or less. Isabella draws 7 feet. Since we were already out we decided to go for a small ride and ended up at a local bar and restaurant. It’s hard to believe that we have been on Isabella for almost two years. There’s been a lot of work and a lot of fun. We know there’s more to come on Isabella and took a few moments to remember good times on our previous boat, Cakewalk, a Catalina 42. This week, we begin fitting the Vetus hatch frames that will eventually become the windows and emergency exits for our 44-foot performance cruising catamaran. Although the hatches themselves won't be permanently installed until we're much closer to launch, now is the time to make sure every frame fits perfectly. Taking the time to get the alignment right today will help ensure a clean look, proper gasket compression, and a watertight seal for years to come. We also complete another major milestone on our hybrid propulsion system by running one of the main cable bundles across the boat, connecting the electrical panel to the equipment on the opposite hull. It's one more behind-the-scenes project that brings us another step closer to powering up the boat. To wrap up the week, we take a short break from the build to join our friends Ryan and Sophie aboard their beautiful home-built wooden Rhode Runner for an afternoon cruise around Annapolis.
