We all know that the Great Wall of China is the longest wall in the world, but did you know that the second-longest was in Croatia, and it’s the longest in Europe! The wall was originally built during Roman Times in the 14th century to protect one thing, salt! Salt production has been occurring in the Ston salt flats for the past 4,000 years and the sun, wind, and salty water in this area make the perfect ingredients to produce this “White Gold” as the locals call it! The traditions used here haven't altered over the years, and salt is still harvested as the Romans would have all those years ago! We left the Long Island sound and sailed back to Manhattan through the East River. The sun was setting behind the New York City skyline when we reached the city so we were treated to the most amazing views. Because of a security zone in the western channel we were escorted by a coast guard vessel while passing by the UN building.
