In October 2022 we went to the Azores for 10 days. We visited 3 out of the 9 inhabited island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (1300 km from Lisbon and 2500 km for New York City). The first island we went to was São Miguel. Everything on a boat takes longer! We are out of water, and to fill our tanks on anchor is a pain. Well it has become a little easier since we got a 30 gallon water bladder. Still to fill our tanks on our boat totaling 150 gallons, takes 5 hours, but still so much easier than water jugs. Also easier than moving the boat to the dock, especially since the docks where are aren't deep enough. Have left links for this water transport system below. Now we have to take care of our engine temperature issue. The boat engine has a raw water heat exchanger, these have to be cleaned. To do this we picked up some Barnacle Buster, we had a pump with hoses, and the fitting that came with our water bladder. Once done with the Barnacle flush, we replaced the Impeller, it was definitely time for that. Now that most of the dirty jobs are done, time for laundry. While our washing machine we have on our boat is small, much better than a bucket. Also since powers an issue, as you can tell in the video, this machine doesn't use much power. I started this series of Advanced Seamanship Notes (Episodes 115-117) to bring to light specific areas of sailing knowledge which are A. difficult to locate in sailing resources on-line or off, and B. provided by a Mariner who is recognizably a 'Master' - in the true sense of the word.  Captain J H Illingworth was considered the 'father of offshore sailing & racing' in postwar Britain. He started the Junior Offshore Group in the UK, acted as Commodore for the Royal Ocean Racing Club , but also was the instigator of the Sydney to Hobart Race in Australia, in 1945. That alone could be pedigree enough for my purposes- but add to that the fact that he was also a decorated submarine Captain in WWII, and suddenly you may realize, as I did; that what Capt. Illingworth did not know about waves and the upper layers of the ocean and their effect on a sailing boat is little more than chafe on the wind. The Trust is a charity dedicated to public education, sail training & the preservation, conservation & maintenance of a unique, historic fleet of traditional Broads sailing craft, the boatsheds in which they were built & associated and endagered heritage craft skills Hunter’s Yard lies at the heart of the Norfolk Broads and is the home of our Fleet of 14 traditional cabin yachts lovingly known as ‘Percy’s Lovely Ladies’. We also have 8 half deckers (day boats), which includes 3 Rebels (racing boats) part of only a few available on the Norfolk Broads for hire. Our ‘Lovely Ladies’ were designed specifically to be sympathetic to these beautiful, unique waterways and are available for hire for short breaks to full weeks. All our vintage cabin yachts and half deckers deliver a great sailing experience from our smaller 2 berth (Hustler Class), 3 berth (Wood Class) or our larger 4 berth (Lullaby Class) yachts. Some yachts in our Fleet are now equipped with an electric engine. Hunter’s Yard have pioneered the introduction of electric pod type engines to the fleet to assist with mooring and when going through bridges. Some yachts in the fleet remain engineless so you would need to be an experienced skipper to take one out. Very good dinghy sailors do find our cabin yachts easy and a joy to handle.
