In this video, learn how lateral marks are used in passage planning and understand the difference between IALA Region A and Region B. The tutorial explains port-hand and starboard-hand marks, buoy shapes, colours, topmarks, light characteristics, and the mnemonic “Can to Port, Cone to Starboard.” Real chart examples are also used to demonstrate how to correctly lay down a planned track, including the use of preferred channel marks. #lateralmarks #cardinalmarks #IALA #NavigationalAid #passageplanning #voyageplanning #seamanship #maritime #seafarer #seaman #bsmt #maritimestudents #ecdis https://youtu.be/__Da9THV-co https://youtu.be/iVYZ9DNW9GE

Crossing the Bay of Biscay is a navigational hurdle when sailing south from the UK to Portugal. We begin this episode in France, in the charming port of Camaret-sur-Mer, waiting for good weather and preparing for the 2-3 day crossing. The Biscay crossing starts out well although we have to keep a constant lookout for aggressive Orcas. We hope to reach Spain and round Cape Finisterre in good conditions before the wind builds and the sea state becomes uncomfortable. We are extending our wheelhouse so that we can have a full cockpit enclosure AND move the mainsheet from the top of the aft cabin to above the wheelhouse (better safety and a better sheeting angle). This is the first prototype frame (will extend to the full cockpit width) so that Jane can start making the rest of the soft enclosure. We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.p... Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc). Exercise, jump rope, jumping jacks, life jackets, Magma grill, dancing, comments. Hello subscribers and viewers. We’re so glad you have visited us here on Sailing Intermission. Your interactions through viewing, commenting and asking questions truly keep us afloat. Love those comments and some are featured in this episode. Some are funny, others informative and several are creative and poetic. Steve is in the dark as to which ones Karen has selected which makes it extra fun. Safety is always paramount on Isabella. Our inflatable life jackets are of an unknown age. They typically last five to eight years; time to test and replace. We inflate one of the inflatables while we went ahead and bought two new jackets. What can we say...they were having a great sale at West Marine and just couldn’t resist. They are Coast Guard approved, 35 pound buoyancy with a harness and were half priced. There is some exercise going on. We bought the new inflatable life jackets and tested an older one. Always nice to exercise safety practices and Karen does a small workout. Keeping things hot! The burner for our Magma grill finally became available after being out of stock. The old one rusted out and actually broke in half! Steve replaces the burner and we celebrate by having a gourmet meal of high quality hot dogs. Yummy. Having the Magma back in action is such a thrill we had to grill again, this time with some delicious rib eye steaks. Precooked a bit below and then grilled to perfection on deck. Huge hugs and kisses to all our subscribers, we can’t emphasize enough how much we appreciate y’all. Thanks to everyone who stopped to view our channel and we would love for you to become subscribers. Additional Links: Hey y’all, our Sony video camera broke and you can help us replace it. 5080 NM parcourus en voilier en 2024 Au cap vert nos îles préférées: Sao Nicolau restée authentique car peu touristique et surtout Santo Antao pour ses belles randonnées et ses paysages abrupts.

We just sailed 172 nautical miles from Malaysia to Thailand 🇹🇭⛵ After months in murky waters, we finally reached crystal-clear seas where we can dive right off our sailboat. For the very first time, we load up our tender with snorkel and dive gear, head out to the reef, free dive below the surface, and spearfish — catching fresh coral trout for dinner. This is our first taste of true off-grid sailing life in Thailand: jumping in the ocean straight from our floating home, exploring vibrant reefs, and living off the sea. And it’s not just us — our kitten comes along for the adventure too, seeing big fish for the very first time. Watch how she reacts to the day’s catch while we prepare it on deck. A glimpse into our sailing life: freedom, adventure, diving, fishing, cooking, and exploring new waters together. 🌊🐟🐾 Who we are - https://youtu.be/fWhhJpkirKc?si=3iZIC5suWW1WDzVj Podcast of Jesse’s Bike Journey- https://open.spotify.com/episode/2ODqtowFPNMSDXnSjevgLs?si=xFDYmUJVQUW_OYGot70RRg Last video -https://youtu.be/mfB-2KNJajI?si=ocLfcM5NY3AVZwqW Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/stella.overboard?igsh=MXBhdDRsb2VrZG16NQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@stella.overboard?_t=ZS-8yhbXJeg49v&_r=1 Contact- Stella.Overboard@gmail.com Other Links - https://linktr.ee/jesse_camille?fbclid=PAQ0xDSwMCoABleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABp9oMTJxjZVpkwiJ7pvgrwkdk1kpP_pleP4ffo3SAwscFaO9Sv0A2oyMBvNrN_aem_cHSwyIDxYQUNREJOs9gZ6g

____ Where manual daggerboards require anticipation and slowing down, CATANA introduces electrically assisted daggerboards, controlled directly from the helm. Smooth, precise, friction-free movement. Enhanced maneuverability in all sea and wind conditions. Here, the daggerboard becomes more than a performance tool — it’s a true asset for safety and comfort at sea. #CatanaCatamarans #CatanaWayOfSail #ElectricDaggerboards #SailingInnovation #OffshorePerformance #BlueWaterSailing

This video will change everything in how you prepare for your next long sail. I’m showing you the exact 'Master Prompt' I use to calculate Compass Deviation and Magnetic Variation in seconds, and even converting coordinates into degrees, minutes and seconds in the same go. Whether you're crossing the Atlantic or island hopping in Southeast Asia, this is the ultimate navigation hack to keep you on course when the screens go dark. Navigating without GPS is not that difficult, but you need to be prepared. And I will show you how to in this free video. Download the open-source prompt below! If you’re a cruiser—or planning to be—Subscribe to follow my journey and grab my free AI navigation prompts to keep your passage planning sharp, no matter where in the world you're sailing. Fair winds from the tropics! Copy from here: Role: Master Navigator Task: Generate a theoretical Rhumb Line navigation backup plan based on the provided GPX data. 1. Universal Waypoint Processing: Identify all entries in the provided GPX file. Assign a sequential Waypoint Number (WP 1, WP 2, etc.) to every point found. Data Integrity: Process every point in the sequence provided. Do not omit, truncate, or summarise any portion of the route. Every waypoint must have its own row. 2. Midpoint Logic: Calculate the distance between every sequential pair (WP n to WP n+1). If the distance between two points exceeds 100nm, insert a new row for the exact midpoint coordinates. Label this row 'WP [Number] MID'. Calculate the True Bearing and WMM 2025 Declination for these midpoints. 3. Navigational Calculations: Coordinates: Convert decimal degrees to Degrees, Minutes, Seconds (DMS). Dist: Nautical Miles (nm) to the next point. True Brg: Precise Rhumb Line bearing to the next point. Decl (2025): Use the latest World Magnetic Model for the specific coordinate. Mag C: True Bearing corrected for Declination (Variation). Dev (Variable): Apply deviation based on a simulated deviation card: For headings 000°–090°: Apply +2° For headings 091°–180°: Apply +1° For headings 181°–270°: Apply -1° For headings 271°–359°: Apply -2° Comp C: Magnetic Course corrected for Deviation. 4. ETAs: Create 4 separate columns for 4, 5, 6, and 7 knots (showing cumulative travel time from the start). 5. Output Format: Table Label: "Master Navigation Table" Columns: [WP #] | [Dist Next] | [Coordinates DMS] | [True Brg] | [Decl (2025)] | [Mag C] | [Dev] | [Comp C] | [ETA 4kt] | [ETA 5kt] | [ETA 6kt] | [ETA 7kt] CSV Section: Provide a raw, comma-separated code block (CSV) at the end containing all rows (Waypoints + Midpoints) that matches the table exactly for import into Excel or Numbers. "CRITICAL: This is for a professional maritime document. You are prohibited from using '...' or skipping any rows. If the output is too long for one message, stop at WP 15 and I will say 'Continue' for the rest." GPX File Input: [PASTE YOUR GPX DATA HERE] The prompt above is free to use, but make sure to check your data, and also please remember navigation is always done at your own risk. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it. Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me. Even though this is season 8 on YouTube, I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 7 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. I also have more than 10 years of experience as a captain in search and rescue at sea in Norway.
